The Galloway Township Police Department concluded a month long investigation inclusive of detectives and patrol officers by arresting a black male subject for CDS and Weapons offenses. 

The Atlantic County Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a residence on the 700 block of East Ocean Avenue in Galloway Township.

According to police, Keegan V. Thomson, 29, of Galloway Township was charged with possession with intent to distribute 4897 bags of heroin with an approximate street value of $20,000.00. 

Galloway Officer Saves Child by Issuing Pediatric CPR and Rescue Breaths

On Friday, March 28, 2014 at 5:45 p.m., Galloway Township Police Officer Matthew Worth was dispatched to an address on Federal Court after a 9-1-1 report of pediatric seizures.  

Upon his arrival, the family took him to a 16 month old child who was unconscious and not breathing.  Officer Worth reacted quickly by providing rescue breaths and pediatric CPR.  

As a result Officer Worth was able to restore the child's breathing.  The child began to cry indicating that he fully regained consciousness.  

The child was transported via Galloway Township Ambulance personnel to the Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center City Division for evaluation. The child has since been released to his parents and is doing well.

Unattended Death of Male Individual on Stockton College Campus Under Investigation

Atlantic County Prosecutors Office has confirmed they are on-scene and assisting Stockton State College Police in Galloway Township with the investigation of a "unattended death" of a male. No further details have been released including if the male was a student at Stockton College. Check back for details as this story is developing.

Risley Square to Host First Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 6

GALLOWAY, N.J., March 31, 2014 – Risley Square will host its very first Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. at 319 East Jimmie Leeds Road, Galloway, NJ.

Hop on over to the Square for this free event. Children will enjoy an ultimate Easter Egg Hunt and have the opportunity to meet and take photos with the Easter Bunny. Participants are encouraged to bring their own baskets to collect eggs.

Participating businesses will welcome the children to hunt for Easter eggs filled full with delicious candies. Children will receive their maps of the Square when they check-in at the Risley offices in building #702.

Galloway to Regulate Charitable Clothing Bins; Permit and Fee Required

On March 25, 2014, Galloway Township Council unanimously voted to introduce a new Ordinance that would require owners and operators of clothing bins placed around the town, to obtain a permit. 

Under a New Jersey State Law, Municipalities are permitted to regulate the placement of clothing bins. Such regulation is appropriate in order to protect the public interest. 

The ordinance as introduced will require any clothing donation bin that is owned or sponsored by a charitable organization to obtain a permit, valid for a twelve-month period, from the Township's Zoning Officer. The cost of the yearly permit would be $25.00.

Brian Killion Sentenced to 85 Years in Prison for Sexual Assaults of Five Boys

MAYS LANDING – An Absecon man was sentenced today to 85 years in prison for the sexual assaults of five boys in southern New Jersey, the crimes committed over a period of time that spanned more than a decade, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.

On Thursday, March 27, 2014, Brian E. Killion, 41, of the 600 block of North Shore Road, Absecon, NJ, was sentenced in Atlantic County Superior Court to 85 years in New Jersey State Prison for sexually assaulting five boys in Atlantic and Burlington Counties, and for endangering the welfare of children, possessing and manufacturing child pornography, and showing pornography to children.

Jessica Lunsford Act Clears Final Legislative Hurdle, Heads to Governor Chris Christie for Signature

Trenton: Clearing its final legislative hurdle, the State Senate today passed the Jessica Lunsford Act (A-892/S-215), which is cosponsored by 9^th District Representatives Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove. 

The Act, which is named after the Florida girl who was sexually assaulted and murdered by a convicted sex offender, requires mandatory terms of imprisonment for persons convicted of aggravated sexual assault against a child under the age of 13, for a specific term of years fixed by the sentencing court, between 25 years and life imprisonment, of which 25 years or more must be served before parole eligibility.

Narcotic Investigation in Pleasantville Leads to Arrests, Seizure of Drugs, Gun, Cash and Vehicle

PLEASANTVILLE — A narcotics investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office resulted today in the arrests of a Pleasantville man and woman, and in the seizure of a large amount of cocaine and cash, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.

At the conclusion of a month-long investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns & Narcotics Unit, today members of that unit, Atlantic County SWAT, and the Pleasantville Police Department, executed a search warrant at 150 Wellington Avenue, Pleasantville.

MAYS LANDING – A Maryland man was indicted today for the physical assault of a woman in an Atlantic City casino/hotel elevator, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.

On February 15, 2014, at 2:52 a.m., Atlantic City Police responded to the Revel Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City to investigate an altercation between Raymell M. Rice, 27, of the 2400 block of Tufton Spring Lane, Reistertown, MD, and Janay Palmer, 26, of the same address.

Atlantic City Police charged both Rice and Palmer with simple assault, a disorderly persons offense. Both were released on summons complaints. The case was referred to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Police Pursuit from Pleasantville to Atlantic City Results in Gunfire; Suspect Killed

ATLANTIC CITY – A police pursuit that began in Pleasantville ended this afternoon in Atlantic City with an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and police, and the death of the suspect, said Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain.

A Pedestrian identified as Iyana Davis of Mays Landing (age 39) was on the shoulder of Route 40 at approximately milepost 44.5 waiting to cross the roadway when  she was struck by a westbound vehicle.

Several Months of Paid Absence for Galloway Principal John Gibson Leads to Resignation

On March 1, 2014, Galloway Township News was the first news agency to report the absence of a Galloway Township Public School Principal that caused great concern within the parental community of Galloway Township. 

At that time Dr. Annette C. Giaquinto, Superintendent of Galloway Township Public Schools notified parents of children within Arthur Rann Elementary School and Pomona Preschool that "John Gibson, Principal is currently out on leave." Giaquinto made that statement in a letter sent home to all parents on February 20, 2014.

Mullica Township Police to Crack Down on Distracted Drivers

Law enforcement officers from the Mullica Township Police Dept. will be cracking down on distracted drivers as part of a new national distracted driving enforcement campaign.

Beginning April 1 and running through April 21, the high visibility law enforcement initiative will target motorists who engage in dangerous distracted driving behaviors such as talking on hand-held cell phones and sending text messages while driving.

UPDATED: On March 19th Galloway Township accepted bids for Fleet Maintenance Services from four (4) different companies. According to the Bid Sheet released by the Township (see below) Galloway Auto & Tire, Regional Tire Service, Cleggs Garage, and Mikes Truck Center. 

Of those Bids, between percentage and rate of labor, Galloway Auto & Tire as well as Regional Tire Service appears to comparable low rates for the Township. 

Atlantic City Man Found Guilty of 2012 Attempted Murder of Atlantic City Teens

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City man was found guilty in Atlantic County Superior Court for the 2012 attempted murder of two Atlantic City teens during a robbery, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.

On October 13, 2012 Atlantic City Police responded to the 300-600 blocks of North Indiana Avenue for a report of gunshots. On arrival police found two Atlantic City teens who had suffered gunshot wounds to the legs. One of the victims reported that the suspect had taken the victim’s Air Jordan sneakers from his feet after shooting him, and walked away. The victims were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Resident Tip Leads Linwood Police into Arresting Burglar

The Linwood Police Department responded to a report of a Suspicious Vehicle, which was called in by a Linwood Resident. 

The vehicle reported matched the description of a vehicle reported in a Burglary Investigation in November 2013 in the same area. 

A short time later Officer Chester Brown and Detective James Norris arrested Christopher Sanchez, of Philadelphia, PA. Sanchez was found in possession of numerous items taken from a residential burglary in the area on this date. 

Philadelphia Man Found Guilty for Unlawful Possession of a Handgun

MAYS LANDING – A Philadelphia man was found guilty in Atlantic County Superior Court for unlawful possession of a handgun, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.

On June 21, 2012, Atlantic City Police officers on directed patrol observed the suspicious behavior of a man at the open trunk of a motor vehicle parked on South Carolina Avenue. 

Further investigation led to a motor vehicle stop and subsequent warrant search of the vehicle, from which was recovered a loaded 9 millimeter Walther P99 semiautomatic handgun. 

Atlantic County Attorney Charged with Money Laundering, Conspiracy and Theft

TRENTON – Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced that a prominent Atlantic County attorney who specializes in elder law and the owner of an in-home senior care company were arrested on charges they conspired to prey on elderly clients and steal their life savings. 

The two women allegedly stole over $2 million from at least 10 victims. The company owner’s sister and a former employee also are charged in the investigation by the State Police and the Division of Criminal Justice.

Galloway Woman Dies After Being Struck by Car While Walking on Sidewalk

On March 19, 2014, Galloway Township Police responded to a fatal pedestrian accident on Leipzig Avenue and St. Andrews Drive in Galloway Township. 

According to Police, Sharon Musher, 41, of Philadelphia, PA was the driver of a 2007 Honda Civic that was traveling northbound on Leipzig Avenue when she lost control of her vehicle, left the roadway and struck two pedestrians walking southbound on the sidewalk, and then struck a tree.

Galloway Police Thank the Public for Use of Social Media in Locating Missing Person

On March 15, 2014 at 8:40 p.m. the Galloway Township Police Department put out pertinent information requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 61 year old missing female (Karen Ryba) with dementia that had walked away from her residence. 

After numerous hours of checking the area with patrol and the use of K-9 dogs and bloodhounds, the police department was unsuccessful in locating Ms. Ryba that evening. 

Absecon Police Investigating Armed Robbery Caught on Video at Sun Petro Gas Station

The Absecon Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred on March 014, 2014 at approximately 03:52 hours at the Sun Petro Gas Station - 101 Absecon Boulevard. 

Surveillance footage captured two adult male suspects (one black, one white or light skinned) approach the attendant on foot. Both suspects were believed to be approximately twenty to twenty five years of age with thin to medium build. 

The black male suspect wearing black boots, jeans, a blue hooded sweatshirt and flat brim baseball cap produced a handgun and forcefully removed several hundred dollars in cash and the victim’s cellular telephone. The white male suspect, wearing a yellow or orange jacket also forcefully removed the victim’s keys, cigarettes and lighter. 

Two Atlantic County Men Found Guilty for Shooting Death of Egg Harbor City Mother

MAYS LANDING – Two Atlantic County men were found guilty in Atlantic County Superior Court this afternoon for their roles in the 2010 shooting death of an Egg Harbor City mother of two, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.

On Oct. 16, 2010 at 12:14 a.m. detectives of the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the Harbor City Apartments on Atlantic Avenue in Egg Harbor City for a report that a resident walking to his mailbox had discovered a body behind apartment buildings J and K. Upon arrival, detectives located Deanna Downs, 29, a resident of the apartment complex, dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

Pleasantville Man Sentenced to 30 years for Fatal Shooting of Somers Point Man in 2011

MAYS LANDING — A Pleasantville man has been sentenced to 30 years in state prison for the fatal shooting of a Somers Point man on Christmas Eve 2011, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.

On Friday, March 14, 2014, Lenny R. Ross, Jr., 31, was sentenced to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison for causing the death of Steven Gurss, Jr., 28, of Somers Point. The sentencing followed a hearing in which Superior Court Judge Michael Donio denied a motion made by Ross on February 7th to withdraw the guilty plea he had entered a month before.

Two Atlantic City Teens Sentenced to 15 years in Prison for Attempted Homicide

MAYS LANDING – Two Atlantic City teens have been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to an attempted homicide in which a 16-year-old boy was significantly injured, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.

On Friday, March 14, Luis Carmargo, now 19, and Keanan Butcher, now 18, both received 15-year New Jersey State Prison sentences for attempted homicide and weapons offenses in connection with firing multiple shots into a group of teenagers outside of an Atlantic City apartment complex.

Atlantic City Man Convicted of Murdering James Jordan in 2012

MAYS LANDING — An Atlantic City man has been convicted of murdering another Atlantic City man in the summer of 2012, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.

On Friday, March 14, an Atlantic County jury found Keshaun Earley, 27, guilty of the murder of James Jordan, 26, who was fatally shot on the 1200 block of Absecon Boulevard in Atlantic City on Aug. 26, 2012. Later that day, Earley was apprehended at his home located on the 4800 block of Anglesey Court in Hamilton Township.

Galloway Woman Charged with DWI and other Offenses in Early Morning Head-on Collision

On March 13, 2014 at 6:55 a.m., Galloway Township Police responded to a head-on motor vehicle accident. 

Harriet Evans, 46 of Galloway was driving a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan north bound on Pitney Road.  Evans vehicle crossed over the center line and ran off the roadway before coming back into the south bound lane.  

Evans vehicle then struck a 2009 Nissan Rouge head on that was south bound on Pitney Road driven by Lakesha Green, 42 of Galloway.  

Galloway Police Assist in Egg Harbor City Weapons and Drug Bust

MAYS LANDING – An Egg Harbor City man has been indicted for weapons and drug related offenses in connection with selling a stolen gun and participating in a heroin trafficking ring, Acting Atlantic County prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.

This week an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Ernest Collier, 19, in connection with two separate cases in which he distributed heroin and conducted the illegal sale of a stolen firearm.

New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign Provides FREE Tree Seedlings to Residents in Galloway Township

Free tree seedlings will be available to GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP residents on April 5th as part of the New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign. This program helps communities replace trees damaged or destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

From 10 AM – 12 NOON on April 5th , residents will be able to pick up tree seedlings at the Galloway Municipal Complex on near the courtroom door. 

Seedlings, available on a first come, first served basis, also come with instructions on how to store, care for, and plant them. The guides help residents choose the right place on a property to plant a tree while keeping in mind the tree’s full-grown size in the future.

Galloway Township, NJ- The Stockton Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA) and Stockton mobility experts will host a CarFit safety program designed to help older drivers find the best fit into their driver seats on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

CarFit is a national program developed by the American Automobile Association (AAA), the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the American Occupational Therapy Association and is designed to give a quick, yet comprehensive check on how well an older driver and his or her vehicle work together.

Driver Sustains Serious Injury in Three Vehicle Collision on Cologne Avenue & Aloe Street

On March 10, 2014, Galloway Township Police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving three (3) vehicles at the intersection of Cologne Avenue and Aloe Street. 

According to Police, a 2004 Chevy Suburban, which was driven by Wilbert Bernhardt was traveling east on Aloe Street and failed to yield at the stop sign at Cologne Avenue.  

The Suburban then collided with a Ford Pickup that was traveling north on Cologne Avenue driven by Robert Forshaw.

Rabid Skunk Confirmed As County's First Rabies Case of 2014

A rabid skunk was recently collected from a property on Betsy Scull Road in Egg Harbor Township, making it the first confirmed case of rabies in Atlantic County this year.

The homeowner contacted the local Animal Control Officer after a dog she was pet sitting encountered a skunk in the backyard and killed it. The skunk was sent to the state lab for testing and was confirmed positive for rabies.

New Jersey State Police Announces Dates for Application Process on New Hires

Fuentes announced the dates for the opening of the New Jersey State Police application process. Stockton@Peace Lecture Series to Host ‘Sandy Stories Project’

Galloway Township, NJ- The Stockton@Peace lecture series will be hosting a March 18, 2014 screening of the “Sandy Stories Project” documentary in The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey’s Campus Center Theatre at 1 p.m. 

The full-length documentary movie, which was produced by the Atlantic County Library System, chronicles the events and aftermath of Hurricane Sandy from the residents of Brigantine, NJ.

The absence of a Galloway Township Public School Principal has caused great concern within the parental community of Galloway Township. 

Over the past week, Galloway Township News has been contacted by several parents inquiring as to the reason a Principal in the district was out on paid leave.

According to Dr. Annette C. Giaquinto, Superintendent of Galloway Township Public Schools, "John Gibson, Principal of Arthur Rann Elementary and Pomona Preschool, is currently out on leave." Giaquinto made that statement in a letter sent home to all parents with children in those schools on February 20, 2014.
