Drivers Injured in Crash with Overturned Vehicle in Absecon; Police Investigate

On May 31, 2015 at approximately 5:11 AM Absecon Police responded to the area of Absecon Boulevard and the Shore Road intersection for a two car accident in the westbound lane. 

Upon patrols arrival, it was discovered one vehicle was lying on its side against the concrete barrier with the driver trapped inside. Absecon Fire Department as well as Absecon Ambulance was requested both of which responded a short time later. 

Traffic was diverted off of Absecon Boulevard onto Turner Avenue with the assistance of Pleasantville Police Department. Traffic was disrupted for approximately one hour as Fire and EMS worked hard to extract the driver.

Atlantic County Prosecutor Drops Sexual Assault Charges Against NY Police Officer

ATLANTIC CITY – The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has dismissed criminal charges against one of two men charged in connection with a 2014 sexual assault in Atlantic City, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
The charges issued in Atlantic City on October 7, 2014 against Andrei Torres, 34, of New York, for aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault alleged to have been committed at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City on April 24, 2014, were administratively dismissed by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office last Friday, May 22, 2015.

Police Investigating Circumstances at Casino Involving Infant Medical Emergency

ATLANTIC CITY – Law enforcement is investigating the circumstances that led to an infant being transported from an Atlantic City casino hotel to a hospital Monday evening in critical condition, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
Atlantic City Police and emergency medical services responded to the Bally’s Atlantic Hotel and Casino on Monday evening, May 25, 2015, at approximately 7:30 p.m. for a report of an infant having difficulty breathing. The 2-month-old child—whose identity is not being released—was airlifted to Children Hospital of Philadelphia, in critical condition.

Three Candidates Vie for Chief of Police in Galloway Township

Promotional process is underway for the new Chief of Police as the current Chief of Police Patrick Moran is set to retire by the end of month. 

Candidates for the position of Chief are Captain Christopher Doyle, Lieutenant Donna Higbee and Lieutenant Joseph Picardi.

Higbee and Picardi were promoted to Lieutenant in January 2015. Higbee is the township’s first female police lieutenant.

Township Manager Susan Jacobucci has formed a committee that consists of members of Township Council, former manager Arch Liston, and a retired Police Chief who has not been named, all of which will begin the interview process and recommendation for the new Chief of Police.

Seat Belt Enforcement and Education Campaign to be Conducted Locally as Part of Nationwide

Click It or Ticket Mobilization May 18 – 31, 2015

(Galloway) -- Law enforcement officers from the Galloway Township Police Department will be cracking down on unbuckled motorists and passengers as part of the national “Click it or Ticket” campaign.

Beginning May 18 and running through May 31, the annual initiative includes high visibility law enforcement seat belt checkpoints and saturation patrols, as well as local and national publicity designed to ensure that drivers and passengers recognize the life-saving value of seat belts.  

“Using a seat belt is the simplest way for a driver and his or her passengers to protect themselves when traveling,” said Gary Poedubicky, Acting Director of the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.   "In 2012 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 12,000 lives nationwide.”

Hamilton Township Man Indicted for 2014 Murder of Girlfriend

ATLANTIC COUNTY— An Hamilton Township man, Joseph Morrison, was indicted on May 6, 2015 for the murder of his live-in girlfriend, Debra J. Mason, last November, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at approximately 9:55 p.m., the Township of Hamilton Police Department responded to the Harding Lakes section of the township for a report that a victim had suffered a gunshot to the chest.
An investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Township of Hamilton Police Department determined that Morrison shot his 52 year old girlfriend in the chest. The investigation led to the subsequent arrest of Joseph Morrison on the charges of murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Atlantic City Man Indicted for Killing Woodbine Man

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City man, Omar Curry, was indicted for murder on May 6, 2015 for killing a Woodbine man last January, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Atlantic City Police were alerted of shots fired by the City’s Shot Spotter gunfire detection software. Police responded to the scene near the intersection of Texas and Arctic Avenues and discovered a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Nelson Viera of the 600 block of Woodbine, NJ.

Man Arrested for Drugs After Search Warrant Executed on Galloway Township Home

On May 82015 at approximately 4:00 pm the Galloway Township Police Department's Detective Bureau executed a search warrant at 32 North Smith Bowen Road following a narcotics investigation.

Noble Roberson (23 year-old male) of that address was arrested by Galloway Township Detective Jason Kiamos and charged possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia.  

Bail was set by Judge Freed at $20,000 full cash.  

The Atlantic County Prosecutors Office Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Unit assisted with this investigation.

Former AC Cop Convicted of Official Misconduct, Theft and Tax Fraud

MAYS LANDING – A former 12-year veteran of the Atlantic City Police Department has been convicted for official misconduct, theft, and tax fraud Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
In March of 2012, Atlantic City Police Officer Michael L. Jones, now 41 of Atlantic City, was arrested for official misconduct and theft by deception. He was processed and released on his own recognizance.
Prior to the arrest, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Public Corruption Task Force, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Official Corruption Unit and the State of New Jersey Department of Treasury, Division of Taxation Office of Criminal Investigation initiated a joint investigation after learning that Officer Jones’ lease in Stanley Holmes Village was terminated by the Atlantic City Housing Authority for failure to comply with the terms of the Live-In Police Officer Program.

Gun Shots Reported in Galloway Community; Police Search for Four Suspects

On May 5, 2015 at approximately 3:45pm, Galloway Township Police responded to calls regarding shots fired.

Galloway Police are investigating numerous gun shots that were fired at a male subject who was in his vehicle. The vehicle was located in the parking lot of Snow Mass Court in the Ryan’s Ridge development of Galloway Township.  

The victim is reported to be uninjured.  At least one suspect appeared to have been armed with a handgun.  

Police are looking for an older model blue mini-van possibly a Dodge Caravan type as well as a large black SUV (unknown make/model) with silver rims and a smaller black SUV (unknown make/model).  

Police Seize Over 1,900 Bags of Heroin; Mullica Man Charged

EGG HARBOR CITY – A narcotics investigation resulted in the arrest of a Mullica Township man and the seizure of heroin and marijuana, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
On Monday, May 4, 2015 the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Offices Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Unit in conjunction with the Egg Harbor City Police Department and the Galloway Township Police arrested Anthony Taylor at the 100 Block of Philadelphia Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ.
The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop conducted by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Unit, in response to numerous complaints from residents and businesses of drug activity in an area established as a public housing complex.

EHT Man to Serve 16-Years in Prison for 2013 Murder and Weapon Charges

MAYS LANDING – An Egg Harbor Township man was sentenced Friday before last to 16 years in prison in connection with the 2013 killing of a Pleasantville man found shot dead inside of a motel room, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Friday, April 17, 2015, Randall C. Scott, 22, of the 2500 block of Tilton Road, Egg Harbor Township, was sentenced by Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Michael A. Donio for the shooting death in October 2013, of Curtis Watson, 20, of Pleasantville.
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to the Courtesy Inn Motel, 2580 Tilton Road, for a 9-1-1 report of shots fired.

Darious M. Brown, 29, of Hamilton Township was arrested by Ofc. Nicholas Stewart and charged with possession of marijuana 50 grams or less, drug paraphernalia and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle on April 20.
David J. Gajtkowski, 26, of Absecon was arrested by Det. Jason Kiamos and charged with burglary and theft of movable property on April 21.
