Dynamo Recreation Center Offers Special Needs Open Gym on Saturday, March 8

GALLOWAY, N.J., Feb. 28, 2014 Dynamo Recreation Center will host a special needs open gym on March 8, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The event is a great opportunity for children to interact with others by engaging in fun fitness activities. 

The free open gym time is for children with special needs including but not limited to Autism, PDD-NOS, Aspergers, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, ADD and ADHD. Siblings are welcome, and a parent or caretaker will be required at all times in the gym to accompany their child.

NJDOT Launches Statewide Pothole Repair Campaign

Motorists should expect to encounter work crews over the next several weeks
(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner James Simpson today announced a concentrated effort that will extend into the spring to repair potholes across New Jersey.
Severe winter weather has produced extraordinarily high numbers of potholes on state highways, creating hazardous conditions for motorists.

Absecon Police Department Investigating a Commercial Burglary at Shore Points Pools

The Absecon Police Department is investigating a commercial burglary that occurred at the Shore Points Pools store on Rt. 30 (White Horse Pike). 
On February 26, 2014 Patrol units were dispatched to the business after the owner arrived and found that a burglary had occurred overnight. 
It was determined that the suspect forced his way into the rear of the business and stole approximately $400.00 cash from the office and a cash register.

Absecon Police Investigating Theft at ShopRite; Police Seek Public Assistance in Identifying Three Female Suspects

The Absecon Police Department is investigating a theft from The Absecon Shop Rite. On February 9th 2014, three black females entered the store and filled up three separate shopping carts worth of items. 
The females then left the store without paying for over seven hundred dollars worth of merchandise. The suspects operated a green minivan believed to be a Ford. 

Stockton to Hold Veterans Resource and Employment Fair on APRIL 4th

On April 4, 2014 The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey will host a Veteran Resource & Employment Fair. The Veteran Fair is co-sponsored by the American Legion and the New Jersey State Parole Board. 

All employers and veteran service providers who assist all veterans with employment, education, counseling, veteran benefits, medical and legal issues are invited to participate.

Mullica Township Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash on Duerer Street; Police Seek Information

On Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 7:52 p.m., Galloway Township Police responded to a motor vehicle crash involving one vehicle located on Duerer Street, between Frankfurt and Berlin Avenues. 

According to Police, a maroon, 1999 Oldsmobile sedan, operated by Shane R. Gerson (28y/o) of Mullica Township, was traveling west on Duerer Street when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a large tree along the west bound shoulder.

Galloway Township is looking for Sponsors for the 2014 Movies in the Park Series. According to Galloway Township Community Services Spring Bulletin, without sponsors, Galloway would be unable to provide most of the Community Events that are offered to the Residents.

Galloway Hires Susan Jacobucci as Township Manager with $120,000 Starting Salary

On February 11, 2014, Galloway Township Council appointed a new Township Manager. Susan Jacobucci, who previously served as Director of Finance / Chief Financial Officer in the City of Newark, joins Galloway Township as Township Manager starting Monday, February 24, 2014. 

Jacobucci succeeds previous Township Manager Arch Liston, who was hired by Atlantic City to serve as their City Administrator after Mayor Don Guardian took office in January 2014. 


According to Mayor Don Purdy, Jacobucci was hired out of a field of twenty (20) candidates. Jacobucci was one of the four candidates who were selected to interview for the vacant position. 
Purdy stated, "three of the candidates who interviewed were women, and that I have never interviewed so many attorneys for a job before. We picked the best fit for Galloway Township"

Structure Fire on Bally Bunion Drive Displaces Homeowner

On Thursday, February 20, 2014, the Galloway Township Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Bally Bunion Drive in reference to a working structure fire.  

Upon arrival, police confirmed that all residents were evacuated from the building.  One subject reported slight burns to his hands and was treated on scene by Galloway Township EMS.

The initial investigation reveals the fire was started by a lit cigarette.  It caused a mattress to ignite which proceeded to engulf the building in flames.  

Galloway Resident Faces Numerous Charges after his own Residence is Burglarized

On Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 9:03 p.m., the Galloway Township Police Department responded to a residence on Federal Court in reference to an activated burglar alarm.  

Upon their arrival, police observed that the front door to the residence had been forced open.  The homeowner, Joseph Brandenberger, also responded and confirmed that several items including a laptop computer had been stolen.

Atlantic County Prosecutors Office Reviewing Assault Charges Against Baltimore Ravens Running Back Ray Rice

The Atlantic County Prosecutors Office issued a statement regarding simple assault charges against Baltimore Ravens running back Raymell M. "Ray" Rice. 

According to the complaint in Atlantic City Municipal Court, Rice was charged with simple assault after causing bodily injury to his fiancé Janay Palmer, specifically after striking her with his hand rendering her unconscious at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City on February 15, 2014.

"The domestic violence incident in Atlantic City involving Ray Rice has been referred to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office for review" stated Haleigh Walz, Public Information Officer for the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Atlantic City Man Convicted of Armed Robbery of Convenience Store

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City man has been convicted of the armed robbery of a convenience store one year ago, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Wednesday, Feb. 19, an Atlantic County Jury convicted Matthew Bumpers, 24, of the armed robbery of the 24/7 Food Mart located on the 1300 block of Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City.
On the evening of Feb. 12, 2013, Bumpers and an unidentified accomplice entered the Food Mart, assaulted the cashier and demanded money while holding him at gunpoint. The defendants then robbed the store, stealing approximately $200 in cash, cigarettes and a cell phone. The defendants broke the store landline to prevent the victim from notifying police before fleeing the scene.

UPDATED: Police Investigating Woman's Body Discovered in Hamilton Township on Weymouth Road

UPDATED (Feb 15) The victim was identified as 25-year-old Joyce Y. Vanderhoff of Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Her family has been notified.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death a homicide. 

HAMILTON TWP. – The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hamilton Township Police Department are investigating the discovery of a woman found dead on the side of the road in Hamilton Township, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Friday, Feb. 14, at approximately 9 a.m., Hamilton Township Police responded to a report of a body spotted by a passing motorist on the side of Weymouth Road. The victim is an unidentified adult female.

Galloway Police Respond to Multiple Accidents with Injuries and Entrapments

On February 13, 2014, Galloway Police responded to multiple accidents involving injuries and entrapment. 

At 7:48 a.m., Galloway Township Police responded to the first Motor Vehicle Accident. 

According to Galloway Police, Steven Michael III, 22 of Egg Harbor City was driving a 1995 Toyota 4-Runner was driving north on S. Cologne Ave.  

Steven lost control of his vehicle on the slush covered roadway and slid head on into a 1997 Saturn SL driven by Jeffery Eddeston, 56 of Egg Harbor City who was driving south on S. Cologne Ave..  Jeffrey had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Pomona FD with the assistance of Germania F.D..

Egg Harbor Township Man Found Guilty of Assaulting Five Women

MAYS LANDING – An Egg Harbor Township man was found guilty of the sexual assault or attempted sexual assault of five women in Atlantic City throughout the summer of 2012, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
On Wednesday, Feb. 12, an Atlantic County jury convicted Hiten Patel, 35, of Ridge Avenue, of sexually assaulting five women, some of which while impersonating an undercover police officer and using an imitation gun to threaten them.

Galloway G-TV Moving To COMCAST Cable Channel 97

Galloway Township has recently been informed by Comcast that G-TV will be moved from cable channel 2 to cable channel 97 on February 27.

In accordance with FCC regulations, Comcast is required to add a new broadcast channel, KJWP-2 of Wilmington, DE, to its channel lineups in the Philadelphia broadcast market, which includes Atlantic County.

Galloway Police, Township Reach Deal to Settle Military and Workman's Compensation Grievances

Galloway Township News has exclusively learned of a settlement between five (5) police officers represented by Mainland PBA Local #77  and the Township that has been finalized on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. 

According to sources, over the past several years the New Jersey State Policeman's Benevolent Association (PBA), Mainland Local #77 filed grievances against the Township for changing workers compensation and military leave policies.

The proposed deal left a decision to be made by five (5) police officers who are Military Personnel. Previously Chief Patrick Moran identified the five military Police Officers as Raymond Casanova, Patrick Neal, Rita Abatemarco, Paul Smith and Kevin Costa.

Acting Attorney General Announces Mandatory Training for Department Employees to Identify and Prevent Child Sexual Abuse

TRENTON – Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman today announced that all Department of Law and Public Safety employees will receive mandatory child sexual abuse identification and prevention training as part of a proactive approach to eradicating this abominable crime in the state of New Jersey. This free, online training session is available to all New Jerseyans.

“As law enforcement and as parents, we owe it to our children to expose the perpetrators who commit these hideous crimes and bring them to justice,” Acting Attorney General Hoffman said. “Law enforcement will continue to crack down on this vicious crime. Yet, it is important to remember that it is everyone’s responsibility, be it teachers, friends, relatives or neighbors, to recognize the signs of abuse and report it to the proper authorities. That is why our Department will participate in this mandatory training.”

Margate Man Sentenced for Bad Checks and Theft of Electrical Services

MAYS LANDING A Margate man has been sentenced to 180 days in county jail for stealing thousands of dollars worth of electric service and writing bad checks, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.

On Friday, Feb. 7, Harry J. Rescigno III, 46, received a 180-day prison sentence for the theft of over $2,500 in electrical services from Atlantic City Electric and writing over $2,700 in bad checks. The court granted Rescigno the ability to serve the sentence via the Home Electronic Detention System (HEDS) program.

Galloway Police Charge Man with Burglary after Catching Him in the Act

On February 5, 2014 at 4:09pm, Galloway Township Police responded to the 900 block of West White Horse Pike for a suspicious male in the area. Officer Geurcioni, Officer Garrison, and Officer Mooney arrived in the area. 

Shortly after the officers arrived they discovered a male actively cutting copper from the pipes of a structure behind a home in the 900 block. The Officers surrounded the building and took the male, Jesse Patten, 34, of Galloway into custody.

Galloway Police Hire Two Recruits Attending Atlantic County Police Academy

The Galloway Township Police Department has hired two (2) recruits to attend the Atlantic County Police Academy. 

According to Galloway Police, Recruit Molholland and Ghandi have been given conditional offers of employment based on completion of their respective police academy training. Recruit Molholland has been a Class II Officer with the Galloway Township Police Department since the summer of 2013. Recruit Ghandi was recently acquired in January 2014.

Absecon Police Investigating Single Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment

On February 2, 2013 at approximately 2:00 AM the Absecon Police Department responded to Absecon Boulevard westbound and Turner Avenue for a reported single car accident. 
Upon Police arrival it was discovered the vehicle was overturned and the driver was trapped inside. 
The Absecon Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services were requested and responded a short time later. The Absecon Fire Department was able to extract the driver and she was transported to Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center City Campus by the Absecon Emergency Medical Services for her injuries.
