Galloway, NJ (March 13, 2014) – Wakefern Food Corp., the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club and Eiger Marketing Group (EMG) announced today contract extensions of the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer through 2016.
Originally known as the Atlantic City Classic, the tournament began in 1986 and was officially changed to the ShopRite LPGA Classic in 1992 when Wakefern Food Corp. became the title sponsor.

The 2014 event will mark Wakefern's 20th year as Title Sponsor of the event. “Wakefern has been a wonderful partner of the LPGA over the past two decades and has consistently put on one of the premiere events on our schedule,” said LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan. “Our players love returning to the Jersey Shore each year and playing at such a first-class host club in Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club. We look forward to celebrating the 20th anniversary of their partnership and many more years.”

Since 1992, ShopRite has donated more than $27 million to charities by sponsoring LPGA tournaments. In 2013, ShopRite again raised nearly $1.3 million for charitable organizations in ShopRite service areas, aiding hospitals, food banks, educational institutions and other agencies.

“Wakefern has long been a proud supporter of the LPGA. As we enter the twentieth year of our partnership, we look forward to the opportunity to serve our neighbors and communities who benefit from the charitable contributions raised at this event,” said Joseph Colalillo, chairman and CEO of Wakefern Food Corp., the marketing and distribution arm for ShopRite. “Together, ShopRite and the LPGA have given millions of dollars to help those in need, and I can’t think of a better reason to continue this tradition.”

The 2014 Tournament will take place Monday, May 26 through Sunday, June 1 on the Bay Course at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, NJ. The best players from the LPGA will compete for their share of a $1.5 million purse in the 54-hole, LPGA-sanctioned official event. The 2014 Tournament will mark the 16th time that the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club has hosted the event, and the new agreement ensures the Tournament will stay on the Bay Course through at least 2016.

“Stockton’s partnership with the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer, is especially significant this year, because we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of Seaview,” said President Herman Saatkamp of The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. “The college’s community partnerships, such as this one with the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer, are part of what makes Stockton distinctive. The Tournament benefits

the region by bringing world-class golf to Stockton Seaview, and by giving a boost to the regional economy. Last year, the Tournament provided over $13.6 million in direct spending to regional businesses. We believe this year’s event will be even more successful - both on and off this historic course.”

One of the most popular stops on the LPGA Tour, the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer has crowned as champions some of the greatest names in women’s professional golf, including Juli Inkster, Nancy Lopez, Betsy King, Annika Sorenstam, Stacy Lewis, and 2013 champion Karrie Webb.

A week of pre-tournament events, including the largest Pro-Am in Professional golf, will lead to three days of championship play starting Friday, May 30 and concluding Sunday, June 1. All three rounds of the Tournament will be televised live on Golf Channel. "It is an exciting time to be part of the LPGA and the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer," said Tim Erensen, the Executive Director of the Tournament and Managing Partner at Eiger Marketing Group, "we could not ask for a better group of partners and securing these multi-year extensions will allow us to continue to grow this shore tradition and solidify our place as one of the premier sporting events in the region.”
