Egg Harbor City Man Charged with Manslaughter for Striking Man that Caused his Death

PLEASANTVILLE – An Egg Harbor City man was charged with manslaughter yesterday for striking a 30-year-old Absecon man in a parking lot in Pleasantville on February 15th, causing the man’s death in the hospital 3 days later, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at approximately 9:49 p.m., Pleasantville Police responded with emergency medical responders to an 800 block North Main Street business parking lot. Upon arrival, officers found Kyle Athill, 30, of Absecon, NJ, lying unconscious on the ground.

Galloway Man Caught and Charged with Burglary, Mischief

On February 21, 2015 at approximately 5:30pm the Galloway Township Police Department responded to a residential burglary to an apartment in the Aloe Village Apartments at 1311 Aloe Street in the South Egg Harbor section of the Township.  

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.  As officers checked the area, Detective Kerry Baerman located a male not far from the scene of the break-in.  

Galloway Police Seek Assistance in Identifying Suspects in Burglary

On February 25, 2015 at approximately 12:55pm two black males entered a religious sanctuary in the Pomona section of Galloway Township and stole a large donation box containing an unknown amount of cash.  

The suspects were operating an early to mid 2000’s Mitsubishi Montero SUV.  The color of the vehicle is two tone white with beige/dark lower section with no front license plate and a dark bug shield on the hood.

EHT Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges; Criminal Charges in 2013 Home Invasion Robbery

ATLANTIC COUNTY— An Egg Harbor Township man was indicted last week for attempted murder and 9 additional criminal counts, in connection with a home invasion robbery committed against a 92-year-old man EHT man in 2013, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2015, an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Robert J. Bilhardt, 26, of the Tower East Mobile Home Park, Tremont Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, ten (10) criminal counts in connection with the December 2013 home invasion robbery of Charles Sweetman, then 92-years-old, a resident of the same community.

Atlantic City Man Receives 15-Years for Possession of Heroin and Handgun

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City man received a 15-year prison sentence today for possession of heroin and unlawful possession of a handgun in 2013, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
Marwin McKoy, 34, of the 100 block of Chesapeake Ave., Atlantic City, was sentenced today, February 20, 2015, by Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Mark Sandson, to 15 years of incarceration in New Jersey State Prison.
On August 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., members of the New Jersey State Police Weapons Trafficking Unit, conducting surveillance in Atlantic City, arrested McKoy on Michigan Avenue in possession of a loaded .22 caliber handgun and 20 bags of heroin.

Absecon Dispatcher Charged with Aggravated Manslaughter in Connection with Fatal Pedestrian Accident

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – A Galloway Township man was arrested this afternoon, charged with aggravated manslaughter in connection with an early-morning February 6th crash that killed a 29-year-old man walking on Tilton Road, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On February 6, 2015 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Galloway Township Police responded to Tilton Road for a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Crash Unit also responded to the scene.
Upon arrival police found the body of Alfonso Dickerson, 29, who had been struck by a vehicle driven by Richard Doherty, 36, of the 1000 block of Bally Bunion Drive, in Galloway Township. Dickerson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Seek Suspects in Shooting at Absecon Village Complex

The Absecon Police is investigating a shooting that occurred at the Absecon Village Complex on Marin Dr. just off California Ave. 

At approximately 10:10 PM, Tuesday night February 17, 2015, the Absecon Police Department along with the Pleasantville Police Department received several 911 calls in regards to a shooting that occurred in the middle of Marin Drive. 

No one was located in the area but physical evidence was recovered in the street to indicate a shooting occurred. One vehicle was struck by a bullet.

Egg Harbor City Police Blotter January 11, 2015 - February 13, 2015


Egg Harbor City Police have released their Police Blotter for the week of January 11, 2015 to February 13, 2015.  Arrests consist of contempt of court, DWI, drug charges, and harassment.

Jonathan M. Storey, 31, of Mays Landing was arrested by SLEO Joe Akeret for contempt of court on January 14, 2015.

Nicole D. Luker, 35, of Galloway was arrested by Sgt. Matt Landicini and SLEO Pat Aiken for contempt of court on January 19, 2015.

Former Galloway Principal John Gibson now center of Lawsuit Filed Against Prosecutors Office

A lawsuit recently filed by Walter Luers, Esq., on behalf of John Paff, against the Ocean County Prosecutors Office (OCPO) may soon bring additional answers to questions that have lingered for almost a year.  The lawsuit is online here.

Those questions are pointed as to what happened with Galloway principal John Gibson that he abruptly began paid leave absences from work and then later retired without again, according to payroll records, stepping foot back in the school district. 

According to Paff's website which has recorded the lawsuit filed, "The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office (OCPO) has acknowledged that it had prepared a June 6, 2014 investigation report into allegations made against John Gibson.  The OCPO also acknowledged that Gibson was interviewed at the Little Egg Harbor Police Department on January 27, 2014, only a few days before Gibson took his leave of absence.  According to the prosecutor's December 8, 2014 letter that denied access to both the investigation report and the video of the interview, the interview regarded "Mr. Gibson's involvement with a minor."

Egg Harbor Township Police have released their Police Blotter for the week of February 4, 2015 to February 11, 2015.  Arrests consist of shoplifting, DWI, drug charges, and harassment.

Joseph J. Erickson, 32, of Pleasantville was arrested Feb. 4 by Detective Scott Hiltner and Officer Curtis Ware and charged with shoplifting.

Troy S. Helduser, 38, of Egg Harbor Township was arrested Feb. 4 by Officer Brett Fair and John Beattes and charged with shoplifting.

Steven J. Adams, 42, of Egg Harbor Township was arrested Feb. 4 by Officers Joseph Coady and William Burns and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and failure to surrender to law enforcement.

EHT Man Guilty of 2013 Shooting Death of Pleasantville Man

MAYS LANDING – An Egg Harbor Township man pled guilty today in connection with the 2013 killing of a Pleasantville man found shot dead inside of a motel room, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
Randall C. Scott, 22, of the 2500 block of Tilton Road, Egg Harbor Township, pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter today before Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Michael A. Donio for the shooting death in October 2013, of Curtis Watson, 20, of Pleasantville.
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to the Courtesy Inn Motel, 2580 Tilton Road, for a 9-1-1 report of shots fired.

Parkway Interchange on Jimmie Leeds Road Scheduled to Open

Interchange #41 of the Garden State Parkway will open on FRIDAY FEBRUARY 27, 2015 AT 5:00 am. Access to and from the Garden State Parkway via the Atlantic City Rest Area will close at that date and time. 

Access to Jimmie Leeds Road will be routed to the new Exit #41 of the Garden State Parkway and commuters will NOT be able to access Jimmie Leeds Road via the Atlantic City Rest Area after 02/27/2015 at 5:00 a.m. 

Galloway Gas Attendant Robbed at Knife Point by Two Male Suspects

On February 5, 2015 at approximately 6:40 pm an armed robbery occurred at the Valero Gas Station located at 261 West White Horse Pike in the Pomona section of Galloway Twp.  

During the incident two white males approached the station attendant, one of the males grabbed the attendant while the other male took money out of his pocket.  The attendant reported that both subjects were armed with knives during the incident.

Toms River Man Sentenced to 3-years in Prison for Endangering the Welfare of his Children

TOMS RIVER, OCEAN COUNTY – A Toms River man was sentenced this morning for endangering the welfare of children, in connection with the 2013 fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy by the defendant’s 4-year-old son, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
Anthony R. Senatore, 35, of McCormick Drive, Toms River, NJ, was sentenced this morning by Ocean County Superior Court Judge Wendell Daniels to 3 years of incarceration in New Jersey State prison for Endangering the Welfare of his own children, and of the 6-year-old neighbor, Brandon Holt.
On April 8, 2013, Senatore’s 4-year-old son gained access to an unsecured loaded .22 caliber rifle in Senatore’s bedroom and fired a single shot that struck 6-year-old neighbor, Brandon Holt, in the head. Holt was transported to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead the next day.

Commercial Burglar Caught in Egg Harbor City After Hitting Several Businesses

On Sunday February 8 around 2:30 am, Ptl. J. Hurley and Ptl. Z. Perna of the Egg Harbor City Police Department responded to an alarm call in the area of the Wells Fargo drive through located at the corner of Liverpool Avenue and Arago Street. 
It was determined that the door to the drive-up teller area had been damaged and entry was made by an unknown suspect(s).  While investigating the burglary, another alarm was dispatched for the Cedar Food Mart. 
Upon arrival, it was found that the front door had been smashed.  During the investigation of the Cedar Food Mart, another alarm was dispatched for the Discount City Liquor store.

Pedestrian Hit on Route 9 in Galloway; Police Searching for Vehicle that Left Scene

On February 7, 2015 at approximately 5:26 p.m. Brandon Diaz, 31 of Galloway Twp., was struck by a vehicle while walking north on the shoulder of Rt. 9 by Ocean Avenue.  

The vehicle left the scene.  Diaz was taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center City Division for torso and head injuries by the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad and Atlantic Care Medics.


Police are looking for a 2008 to 2010 Ford Fusion or Mercury Milan, Platinum (pearl) white in color with a missing passenger side view mirror.

Hamilton Township Man Arrested with Loaded Handgun and Hollow Point Bullets

On February 7, 2015 at 2:27pm, the Township of Hamilton Police responded to Cologne Gardens Apartments for a report of a man who pulled a knife on another person during a dispute.  

Responding officers located a man matching the description of the accused walking on Cologne Avenue near Cologne Gardens.  The accused, Darrell Spencer, age 34, of Mays Landing, discarded a backpack before running across Rt. 322 as officers approached.  

He was taken into custody and the backpack was found to contain a Ruger revolver loaded with hollow point bullets, along with personal property bearing his name.

Morning Fire of Single Family Home in Galloway Under Investigation

On February 6, 2015 at 9:09 a.m., the Galloway Township Police Department responded to the 200 block of East Crestview Avenue for a reported structure fire. 

Upon patrol arrival, the single family residence was fully engulfed and no one was home. Galloway Twp. fire personnel from Bayview, Pomona, Oceanville and South Egg Harbor responded as well as Absecon Fire personnel. 

Galloway Twp. EMS was on scene in case of injury. No injuries were reported. Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management responded. 

Absecon Police Dispatcher Charged with DWI in Fatal Pedestrian Accident

On February 6, 2014 at 1:34 a.m., Galloway Township Police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Tilton Road, south of Aloe Street.
Alfonso L. Dickerson, 29 of Galloway, was walking southbound on the shoulder of Tilton Road when he was struck. 
Richard F. Doherty, 36 of Galloway was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, also traveling southbound, when he left the lane of travel and struck Dickerson.  
Dickerson was pronounced dead at the scene.  Doherty was taken into custody and charged with DWI.  Further charges are pending the investigation. 

Galloway Police Assist in Drug Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Handgun

On February 4, 2015 the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Unit, the Galloway Township Police Department Detective Bureau as well as The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit arrested Caleb Bostic, a 23 year old male of Egg Harbor City on numerous charges following a motor vehicle stop and a subsequent investigation.  

Caleb was found to be in possession of 382 baggies of heroin, a small amount of cocaine and marijuana as well as a loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun.  

The arrest occurred on the 100 block of Philadelphia Ave in Egg Harbor City at approximately 4:00pm.

Burglar Caught by Galloway Police after Brief Foot Pursuit

On February 4, 2015 at 11:10 pm, Galloway Police responded to a business alarm at the Dollar General Store in the Smithville section of Galloway Township at 45 South New York Road.  

Upon police arrival Patrol Officer Dan Weigle discovered the back door to the business was damaged and entry was gained to the building.  

The suspect, Daniel Maddelin, a 48-year-old male from Mays Landing, fled the business out another back door and was  arrested by Officer Weigle after a brief foot pursuit.  

Driver Charged with DWI, Reckless Driving in Serious Accident on Moss Mill Road

On February 4, 2015 at 10:01 p.m., a 2007 Jeep Wrangler left the roadway striking a utility pool causing the vehicle to overturn on West Moss Mill Road just west of Prague Ave.  

The only occupant in the vehicle was the driver, a 47 year-old male from Mays Landing.  He was airlifted by helicopter to the Atlanticare Center City Division Trauma Center with moderate injuries.  

The male needed to be extricated from the vehicle by the Germania and Pomona Fire Companies.  The male has been charged with DWI, Reckless driving and with making an unsafe lane change.  

Death of Atlantic City Man Ruled Homicide; Gunshot Wound to Chest

ATLANTIC CITY – The death of the 61-year-old Atlantic City man found dead Saturday in his home has been ruled a homicide, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
The Atlantic City Police Department responded at approximately shortly after midnight, Saturday, January 31, 2015, to a residence on North Bellevue Avenue, Atlantic City.
Upon arrival, police found Kenneth Moore, 61, dead in his home on N. Bellevue Avenue.
An autopsy determined yesterday that the death is a homicide, from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Man Charged with DWI After Crashing into Tree on Route 9 in Galloway

On Wednesday, February 04, 2015 Galloway Police responded to the area of Route 9 and Somerstown Lane in reference to the report of a motor vehicle that crashed into a tree.  

Upon police arrival Robert Price, 32, of Egg Harbor Township was seated in the vehicle and appeared disoriented.  Price was initially treated on scene by The Galloway Township Ambulance Squad before being transported to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

The initial investigation reveals that Robert Price was traveling south bound on Route 9 in the area of Somerstown Lane when his 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt traveled across the center line and into oncoming traffic.

Second Fatality; Second Brand Reported in Heroin Overdoses in Atlantic & Cumberland County

ATLANTIC COUNTY – The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office alerted the public Saturday evening to a high number of suspected heroin overdoses on that day, and of a heroin brand, stamped “1 Stop,” in purple, linked to some of the incidents.
Since then, the reported number of suspected heroin overdoses during the weekend increased to approximately one dozen (12) confirmed in Atlantic County—including a second fatality, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said
It has also been reported that, during the same weekend, approximately twenty (20) overdoses in total were treated at three local South Jersey hospitals that serve both Atlantic and Cumberland Counties.

Woman Convicted of Vehicular Homicide After 2012 Crash that Killed Husband

MAYS LANDING – A New Hampshire woman was convicted of vehicular homicide in connection with a 2012 single-vehicle crash in Pleasantville that claimed the life of her husband, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
Today, an Atlantic County jury found Allison Hawks Nasta, 31, of the 300 block of Varney Street, Manchester, New Hampshire, guilty of vehicular homicide and two additional charges.
Shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Aug. 28, 2012, Nasta was driving her minivan westbound on the Black Horse Pike between Chestnut Avenue and Route 9 in Pleasantville, when she crossed two lanes of traffic and collided head-on with a utility pole.

Township Clerk, Officials Under State Investigation For Allegedly Lying About Existence of Records

A former New Jersey resident and transparency government activist Harry Scheeler has filed two separate complaints against Acting Clerk Kelli Danieli, Township Solicitor Michael Fitzgerald, and another Attorney assigned to the Township to defend a lawsuit. 

The complaints filed with the Government Records Council (GRC), allege the Township violated Scheeler's right under the Open Public Records Act (OPRA) by intentionally withholding a lawsuit settlement agreement made between the Township and former Township Manager Stephen Bonanni. The settlement was approved by Township Council in November 2014 for $92,000. 


Scheeler alleges in the complaints that on two separate occasions he filed an OPRA request for the settlement agreement and the Township denied the release of the agreement by continually stating the agreement was never executed, which Scheeler claims the Township lied.

Warning Issued on Dangerous Batch of Heroin Released in Atlantic County

ATLANTIC COUNTY – The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is alerting the public to a particularly dangerous batch of heroin that may be responsible for as many as five (5) heroin overdoses in Atlantic County today, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
The bags containing the heroin believed to have caused the overdoses are stamped in purple lettering:
“1 Stop”
Heroin bags with the above stamp are linked to several of the overdose cases, including one that resulted in death, although determination with certainty of the cause of death is pending toxicological analysis. The other victims survived.
