Explosive Devices, Guns Removed from Egg Harbor Township Home; Man Charged

On Wednesday evening, Egg Harbor Township Patrol Officers responded to the 100 block of Alder Avenue to investigate the report of a man with a gun threatening others. 

As police arrived on location, they learned that shots had been fired inside the residence. The suspect, sixty-six year old George L. Milner, was subsequently arrested on the front porch after a brief struggle with officers.

Atlantic City Man Charged with Vehicular Homicide for Death of Galloway Man

ATLANTIC CITY – An Atlantic City man was arrested today for vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal collision in Atlantic City last month that claimed the life of a Galloway man, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Monday, April 28, at approximately 3:17 a.m., members of the Atlantic City Police Department, Atlantic City Emergency Medical Services, Atlantic City Fire Department, and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office responded to a crash involving two motor vehicles at the intersection of Massachusetts and Grammercy Avenues in Atlantic City.

Absecon Woman Extracted From Vehicle After Losing Control and Striking Tree in Galloway

On May 29, 2014, the Galloway Township Police Department responded to a Motor Vehicle Accident with entrapment on Leipzig Avenue and Country Club Drive. 

A 2007 Saturn driven by Dawn Posner of Absecon was traveling south on Leipzig Avenue. The Saturn attempted to pass a 2007 Lexus driven by Lonnie Mishoe Jr. of Galloway Township as it attempted a left turn onto Country Club Drive. 

The area in question is a no passing zone. As she passed, the Lexus turned left into her vehicle causing it to spin out of control, go off the roadway and strike a tree.

Egg Harbor Township Woman Receives 7-Year Sentence on Drug and Gun Charges; Husband gets 18-years

TRENTON – Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced that an Atlantic County woman was sentenced to state prison today on charges stemming from an investigation by the Atlantic City Violent Crime Task Force. The task force arrested the defendant and her husband in January 2013 upon executing a search warrant at their home and finding a large quantity of cocaine and an assault weapon.

Chinyere Gardner, 34, of Egg Harbor Township, was sentenced to seven years in state prison, including five years of parole ineligibility, by Superior Court Judge Michael A. Donio in Atlantic County.

Police Investigating Shooting Death of Mullica Township Woman

MULLICA TWP – Police are investigating the shooting death yesterday of a Mullica Township woman, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On May 26, 2014, at 9:24 a.m., the Mullica Township Police responded to 4901 Pleasant Mills Road for a 9-1-1 report of the shooting death of Lynn DeRosa, 57, of that address.

Three Teenagers Killed After Car Collided with Commercial Bus in Pleasantville

ATLANTIC CITY – Three Atlantic County teenagers were killed when the car in which they were passengers collided with a commercial bus yesterday afternoon in Pleasantville, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Monday, May 26, at 1:49 p.m., police, fire, and emergency medical services from Pleasantville and surrounding municipalities responded to a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a New Jersey Transit bus on Franklin Boulevard, near the intersection of Old Turnpike Road.

Murder-Suicide Deemed Reason for Death of Two Men in London Court Home in EHT

EGG HARBOR TWP. – Two men were found dead of gunshot wounds in their London Court, Egg Harbor Township home Saturday afternoon, the result of a murder-suicide, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 1:28 p.m., Egg Harbor Township Police responded to 254 London Court, after receiving a 9-1-1 call from a neighbor reporting that mail had been accumulating outside the residence, and that the two men residing at the address had not been seen since Thursday.

Two Men Found Dead of Gunshot Wounds in Egg Harbor Township Home; Police Investigating

EGG HARBOR TWP. – Two men were found dead of gunshot wounds in their London Court, Egg Harbor Township home this afternoon, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Egg Harbor Township Police Department are on the scene and investigating.
Release of victim names is pending notification of next-of-kin.

The Galloway Township Police Department is honored to announce that our two new canines have graduated patrol school on May 24, 2014, and will be hitting the streets immediately.  

K-9 Rocky, an 18 month old German Shepherd will be handled by his partner, K-9 Officer Scott Winneberger.   K-9 Chico, an 18 month old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix will be handled by K-9 Officer Hiram Melendez.

Two Atlantic County Men Sentenced to Over 20-Years in Prison for 2012 Fatal Shooting of Atlantic City Man

MAYS LANDING – Two Atlantic County men were sentenced today for the 2012 fatal shooting of a 26-year-old Atlantic City man, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
On May 10, 2012, at 4:45 a.m., Atlantic City Police discovered Joshua Hopewell, 26, of Atlantic City, on North Rhode Island Avenue with gunshot wounds to the head and torso. Hopewell was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Campus, Atlantic City, where he later died of his injuries.

Absegami Principal and Union Await Investigative Report for Allegations Asserted by Teacher

On April 30, 2014 a complaint was filed against Absegami Principal, Dr. Jeri-Lynn Gatto. The complaint, which alleges harassment, intimidation and bullying was filed by an Absegami Teacher Sally Giannandrea. 

Giannandrea, who is a French teacher at Absegami High School alleged that an incident occurred on April 2, 2014 between her and Gatto and in the presence of another teacher. Giannandrea stated, "I am filing this claim as a member of a targeted group of individuals, those affected with cancer." Giannandrea explained in the complaint she has battled cancer for several years and had to recently take three months of medical leave due to her condition.

Egg Harbor Twp. Police in Search of Suspects who Burglarized Home and Stole Safe

On April 20, 2014 (Easter Sunday), this agency responded to the 5000 block of Tremont Ave for a residential burglary that just occurred. It was reported that a tan or beige older model Ford Explorer backed up into the victim’s driveway. 

Two males exited the vehicle while the driver remained in the vehicle.

The two males entered the residence through the front door and carried out a deposit safe. The safe was described as an AMSEC brand top loading deposit safe with dual control key lock (pictured). It stood approximately 36 inches tall and was approximately 14 inches square. It contained a substantial amount of cash (mostly $100 bills and $50 bills).

Police Arrest Two Suspects at Wawa on Route 40 for Attempted Burglary

On May 20, 2014 at approximately 7 pm a concerned citizen called the Township of Hamilton Police in regards to a possible burglary in progress. The caller was able to provide a detailed description of the two subjects and a location where the subjects had walked to. 

Ofc. Perna arrived near the Route 40 and CR 606 WAWA and one subject, later identifed as a 16 year old juvenile male of Mays Landing, fled on foot into the woods. Ofc. Perna gave chase and tackled the subject in the woods. Ofc. Clayton arrived and assisted in controlling the subject and arresting him. 

Settlement Reached in Lawsuit Involving Hamilton Township Committeewoman; Tort Claimed Filed by Township Manager

In less than thirty days after a lawsuit was filed by Committeewoman Aline Dix, a settlement between the parties has been reached but the drama may not stop there. Township Manager Michael Jacobs has started to initiate his own litigation. 

Galloway Township News was first to report that on April 17, 2014 a lawsuit was filed in Atlantic County Superior Court by Pitman based Attorney Sebastian Ionna on behalf of Hamilton Township Committeewoman Aline Dix. The lawsuit was filed against Township Administrator Michael S. Jacobs, Mayor Roger Silva, Deputy Mayor Amy Gatto and Mary Kelly from Human Resources.

Atlantic County Cops Charges with Official Misconduct and Sexual Assault of 16-year-old Girl

ATLANTIC COUNTY —Two police officers employed by municipal police departments of Atlantic County were arrested yesterday for separate and independent acts of official misconduct and child sexual assault, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
An investigation of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, assisted by the Brigantine Police Department, resulted in the arrest Monday, May 19, 2014, of Brigantine Police Officer Ralph M. Pereira, 43, of the 5000 block of Ontario Avenue, Brigantine, NJ.

Baltimore Ravens Running Back Ray Rice is Approved for PTI Program in Assault Charges

MAYS LANDING – The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has approved the application for admission to the Pre-Trial Intervention program of a Maryland man for the physical assault of a woman in an Atlantic City casino/hotel elevator, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has approved the application of Raymell Rice, 27, of the 2400 block of Tufton Spring Lane, Reistertown, MD for admission to the Pre-Trial Intervention program.

Absecon Police Investigating Armed Robbery of CVS Pharmacy; Police Seek Public Assistance

On Friday May 16th, 2014 at approximatley 11:48 Am, a white male in his 30's, wearing a black bandana, sun glasses, a woodland style camo sweat shirt with black t-shirt underneath (w/ design), black 3/4 length cargo pants, dark brown hiking boots, and a piercing below the lower lip, entered the store and gathered some items. 
The male suspect then approached the cashier, placed the items on the counter along with a hand written note warning her not to scream or she would be harmed. 
The suspect then brandished a pocket knife and demanded money from the cash register. The cashier complied, placing and undisclosed amount of cash in a bag and handed it to the suspect. The suspect then fled the store on foot.

(Galloway) -- Law enforcement officers from the Galloway Township Police Department will be cracking down on unbuckled motorists and passengers as part of the national “Click it or Ticket” campaign.
Beginning May 19 and running through June 1, the annual initiative includes high visibility law enforcement seat belt checkpoints and saturation patrols, as well as local and national publicity designed to ensure that drivers and passengers recognize the life-saving value of seat belts.

Galloway Chief of Police Recognizes the Men and Women of the Galloway Police Department

The Men and Women of the Galloway Township Police Department have been the caretakers of our community for over 117 years. The department started back in 1897 with 5 officers, peaked with about 74 officers in 2008 and remains at 50 today.

The officers of this community have handled between 35-39,000 calls for service per year over the past three years with hundreds of arrests, which continue to increase. As with other communities, our resources for funding and staffing levels have all had to adjust to the changing economy but our officers still remain dedicated and vigilant.

Galloway Police Charge Babysitter with Leaving 3-year-old Child in Vehicle Unattended

On Friday, May 9, 2014 at 8:33 p.m., the Galloway Township Police Department responded to the 200 block of North Leipzig Avenue in reference to the report of a child left unattended in a vehicle.  

Upon arrival police located the accused, resident Troy Bowser, 26 of Galloway, who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and was incoherent.  

Bowser was supposed to be babysitting the 3-year-old child who he left in the car for approximately 3 hours according to the child’s parents who were contacted.  

Chuck Mackintosh to be Honored by Galloway Council for his 50-years in Fire Service

Galloway Township Mayor and Council is set to honor Chuck Mackintosh for his 50-years of dedicated Fire Service during tonights Council Meeting.

Mackintosh is the Chief of Bayview Volunteer Fire Company # 4 in Galloway Township. Mackintosh has been the Chief for the past few years and has served as Chief for a total of 9 years. 

Mackintosh was also a paid member with the Teaneck Fire Department for 43 years and even was part of the search and recovery team during 9/11.  

Mackintosh was already honored at the Atlantic County Fire Association meeting and further was awarded a 50 year pin and plaque from Representative Congressman Frank LoBiondo.

Large Party Out of Control Turns into Multiple Arrests for Recent Car Burglaries in Galloway

On May 11, 2014 at 12:37 a.m., Galloway Township Police responded to the 700 block of Second Avenue for a large party out of control.

During the investigation of the large party out of control and individuals fighting at a local motel, stolen property and a shotgun was observed.  

Search warrants were obtained and numerous items previously reported stolen from car burglaries two nights prior were recovered.

Atlantic City Man Charged with Murder in the 2011 Shooting Death of Atlantic City Man

ATLANTIC CITY – An Atlantic City man has been charged and arrested for the fatal shooting of a man found by police dead inside his Atlantic City home in 2011, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
A three year-long cooperative investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department culminated in the arrest yesterday, May 8, 2014, of a 21 year-old Atlantic City man, charged for the shooting death in February 2011 of Bruce Bowers, 48, of the Lighthouse Plaza, 300 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City.

Galloway Police Advise Public of Recent Burglaries in the Community

The Galloway Township Police Department is asking that all commercial businesses keep their properties secured as there have been multiple businesses burglarized in recent weeks. 

Any and all video surveillance should be operable as well as a reminder to set alarms and keep areas well lit. Please double check your property for unsecured doors or windows prior to closing and do not leave cash or valuables on premises. 

Dominican Republic National Residing in Atlantic City Charged with Child Pornography

MAYS LANDING – A Dominican Republic national residing in Atlantic City was arrested yesterday for downloading from the internet video images of children being sexually exploited, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
A month-long cooperative investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Investigation Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit culminated on May 7, 2014 with the warrant search of a residence on the 3000 block of Fairmount Avenue in Atlantic City, NJ, the seizure of computer equipment containing child pornography, and the arrest of Gilvantroi Abreu Fernandez, 31, of that address.

Atlantic City Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison for 2012 Murder

MAYS LANDING — An Atlantic City man was sentenced yesterday to 40 years in prison for the murder another Atlantic City man in the summer of 2012, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Friday, Mar. 14, 2014, an Atlantic County jury found Keshaun Earley, 27, guilty of the murder of James Jordan, 26, who was fatally shot on the 1200 block of Absecon Boulevard in Atlantic City on Aug. 26, 2012. Earley was apprehended the day of the murder at his home on the 4800 block of Anglesey Court in Hamilton Township.

Driver of Motorcycle Seriously Injured After Being Thrown From Bike in Collision

On May 7th at approximately 3:52 PM the Absecon Police Department responded to a serious motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and an automobile. 
The accident occurred on New Road (Rt 9) near the Absecon Laundromat.

Kenneth Oglesby, 42, of Hamilton Township was traveling south on New Road on his motorcycle when a Toyota Avalon, operated by Rajendra Patel, 57, of Absecon, was heading North on New Road and was attempting to make a left turn into the parking lot of the Absecon Laundromat.

Hammonton Band Director Jason Koenig Surrenders to Prosecutors; Faces Several Charges Including Sexual Assault

MAYS LANDING – A Hammonton man employed as the high school marching band director surrendered himself to law enforcement this morning, and was arraigned for the sexual assault of a 16 year-old student, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On May 1, 2014, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Jason Koenig, 26, of the 600 block of Wilbur Avenue, Hammonton, NJ, for charges of:
(1) Official Misconduct, a 2nd degree crime,
(2) Sexual Assault, a 2nd degree crime,
(3) Criminal Sexual Contact, a 4th degree crime, and
(4) Endangering the Welfare of Children, a 2nd degree crime.

Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Route 30 After Attempting to Cross Roadway

The Absecon Police Department responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 6:48pm on US Rt. 30 in the area of Haddon Ave. 

The department is investigating a single motor vehicle crash where it appears a pedestrian ran in front of traffic in an attempt to cross the roadway and was struck. 

The deceased, a fifty-seven year old male from Atlantic City, was pronounced dead on scene. The eighteen year old driver from Galloway Twp. was transported by Absecon EMS to the Atlanticare Regional Medical Center- Mainland Campus for treatment. 

Single Motor Vehicle Crash on Route 30 Turns Fatal; One Injured

The Absecon Police Department was dispatched to a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10:07pm on US Rt. 30 in the area of Delilah Road. 
The police department is investigating the single motor vehicle crash where it appears the vehicle struck the center barrier, overturned, and came to rest on its roof.

Annette C. Giaquinto, Ed. D., Superintendent of Schools issued the following statement to Galloway Township News in response to former Principal John Gibson's involvement in a Criminal Investigation with the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

"As Superintendent of Schools, neither I nor any member of my staff can comment on any "ongoing criminal investigation" or personnel matter. 
I can, however, state the following: 1) parents/guardians and the community were provided with updates regarding Mr. Gibson within the scope of code and policy; and 2) of the 600 plus families at Arthur Rann and Pomona Schools, I was contacted by about five parents to whom I responded as requested.

The Ocean County Prosecutors Office may have cast new light on what happened to former Galloway Principal John Gibson and his continued paid absences. 

Galloway Township News obtained a letter dated May 2, 2014 between the Ocean County Prosecutors Office (OCPO) and John Paff, Chairman of the New Jersey Libertarian Party's Open Government Advocacy Project.  The letter was in response to an Open Public Records Request for contents of a file involving former Galloway Principal John Gibson.

Former South Jersey Gas Employee Charged with Theft by Deception

MAYS LANDING – A former employee of South Jersey Gas/South Jersey Industries was indicted yesterday afternoon for the theft from her employer of nearly $100,000, obtained by submitting falsified invoices to the company’s college tuition reimbursement program for courses she did not attend, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
On Wednesday, April 30, 2014, as a result of a 4-month investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit, an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Laila Milanian, age 39, of Cambridge Lane, Berlin, NJ, for Theft by Deception for the theft of over $98,000 from South Jersey Gas/South Jersey Industries, Inc.

Shoplifter Found at Galloway Motel Accused of Stealing Over $3,000 in Merchandise from Absecon Home Depot

On May 2, 2014 at approximately 1:50 pm the Home Depot- 421 Absecon Blvd reported a shoplifting. Employees reported that the accused described as a white male, 6 foot tall, and wearing a navy blue and white sweatshirt with the symbol “O” on the front. 
The male was seen on surveillance video loading several DeWalt, Ryobi, and Echo power tools into a shopping cart then leaving the store and loading it into a tan Grand Marquis bearing NJ registration. Patrol units began searching the area.

Two Employees of Atlantic City Casino Restaurant Charged with Theft of over $100,000; Employees yet to be Located

MAYS LANDING – Two employees of an Atlantic City casino restaurant were indicted yesterday afternoon for the theft from their employer of over $100,000, the theft accomplished by issuing payroll checks to non-existent employees over more than a 2- year period, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
On Wednesday, April 30, 2014, as a result of an 18-month investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit, an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Jason Spurlock, 35, and Suzanne Adkisson, 35, both formerly of the 800 block of Ocean City, New Jersey, for Theft by Deception and Conspiracy, for the theft of $109,000 from the Il Mulino Restaurant, located in the Taj Mahal Casino, Atlantic City, NJ.

Baltimore Ravens Running Back Ray Rice Pleads Not Guilty; Applies for PTI

MAYS LANDING – A Maryland man was arraigned today for the physical assault of a woman in an Atlantic City casino/hotel elevator, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
Raymell M. Rice, 27, of the 2400 block of Tufton Spring Lane, Reistertown, MD, was arraigned on May 1, 2014 at 8:45 a.m. on the charge of aggravated assault in Atlantic County Superior Court.
On February 15, 2014, at 2:52 a.m., Atlantic City Police responded to the Revel Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City to investigate an altercation between Raymell M. Rice, 27, of the 2400 block of Tufton Spring Lane, Reistertown, MD, and Janay Palmer, 26, of the same address.

Former Hammonton Band Director Charged with Sexual Assault of 16 Year-Old Student

MAYS LANDING – A Hammonton man employed as the high school marching band director has been charged with the sexual assault of a 16 year-old student, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
After a week-long investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Town of Hammonton Police Department, a warrant was issued today for the arrest of Jason Koenig, 26, of the 600 block of Wilbur Avenue, Hammonton, NJ, for charges of:
(1) Official Misconduct, a 2nd degree crime,
(2) Sexual Assault, a 2nd degree crime,
(3) Criminal Sexual Contact, a 4th degree crime, and
(4) Endangering the Welfare of Children, a 2nd degree crime.
Koenig has not yet been located and taken into custody.

Four Arrested of Drug Charges After Execution of Search Warrant on Local Motel Room

On Wednesday, April 30, 2014, members of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau, with the assistance of Atlantic County SWAT and members of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department Patrol Division, executed narcotics search warrants at a room at the Economy Inn, located in the West Atlantic City section, and at a room at the Rex Motel, located in the Farmington section of the township. 
Four adults were arrested for possessing an undisclosed amount of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
