Newtonville Man Victim of Shooting; Dies in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY – A Newtonville man was found early this morning in Atlantic City, the victim of a shooting, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
Atlantic City Police responded to Hobart Avenue for a Shotspotter Gunshot Detection and Location activation at 1:59 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Upon arrival, police found a male victim, the apparent victim of gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center—City Division.
The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:49 a.m.

Galloway Council Demands Bonuses of GEHR Superintendent and Administrator be Rescinded

Galloway Township Council passed a resolution Tuesday night demanding the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School Board rescind the payment of bonuses to the Superintendent and school Administrator. 

Galloway Council is demanding Superintendent John Keenan and the Administrator return the $25,000 and $10,000 bonuses respectively and allow the money to be used to benefit the students in the district. 

The School District has received $31 million dollars in State aid. Aid that is coupled with tax dollars that are being raised by taxation from hardworking taxpayers from Galloway Township and other sending districts, the resolution said

"The rationale for the bonuses is to reward the Superintendent and Administrator for the performance of their duties" Galloway Council said in the resolution.

Second Arrest Made in Connection with 2015 Murder in Hamilton Township

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – A second arrest was made today in connection with the November 2015 shooting death in Hamilton Township of a Mays Landing man, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
In response to a 9-1-1 call received at 7:29 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2015, Hamilton Township Police, Township of Hamilton Rescue personnel, and AtlantiCare paramedics responded to a home on the 5900 block of Elmhurst Drive, Mays Landing. Upon arrival, police found Michael Black, 31, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Black was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center—City Division, where he was later declared dead.

Atlantic City Man Sent Back to Prison After Murdering Mother

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City man was sentenced today for killing his mother in 2014, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
A 9-1-1 call received at 6:29 a.m. on October 12, 2014 prompted the response of Atlantic City Police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit to 1812 McKinley Avenue, Atlantic City.
Upon arrival, police found the resident, Gwendolyn Pratt, 64, dead of apparent head injuries. The victim’s son, Steven Pratt, now 47, of the same address, was found at the scene and detained by police.

Traffic Stop in Galloway Leads to Drug Arrest

On Thursday, March 17, 2016 at approximately 12:41 pm., Galloway Township Police Officer Dominic Fabrizio stopped a blue Ford Explorer for an equipment violation.  

During the course of the investigation, an overwhelming odor of marijuana was detected.  A search of the vehicle revealed over a pound of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.


Donita Ford, 36 of Atlantic City was arrested for possession of over 50 grams of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Absecon Man Charged with Burglary of Smithville Business

Galloway Township Police Detectives have arrested and charged a local man with burglary. 

On Friday March 11, 2016 at approximately 7:21 p.m., an unknown male forced entry to the Days of Olde Antiques located on New York Road (Route 9) by breaking a rear window to the business. The suspect fled into the woods behind the business.  Evidence recovered at the scene led to several investigative leads.

Tuckerton Man Killed in Head-on Collision on Pomona Road in Galloway

On March 1, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., Galloway Township Police responded to motor vehicle accident in the area of CR #575 (Pomona Rd), just north of Duerer Street that resulted in fatal injuries. 

According to Police, a preliminary investigation has revealed that Joseph A. Ferrell, 56 of Tuckerton, was traveling northbound on Pomona Rd, in a 1999 Ford Expedition. Ferrell's vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 1995 Ford Truck, traveling southbound, driven by Joseph P. Kessleski,69 of Egg Harbor Township. Kessleski had minor injuries and was evaluated and released. Ferrell was pronounced deceased on scene.
