UPDATED: Pedestrian Struck and Killed on White Horse Pike, Galloway

UPDATED: The pedestrian accident victim has been positively identified as Melissa A. Kriss of Galloway Township, NJ. 

On August 31, 2015 at 4:32 p.m., Galloway Township Police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. According to Police the collision occurred on the White Horse Pike (US Route 30) and Sixth Avenue in Galloway Township.
The vehicle, a 2006 Nissan Altima, driven by Steven Mills, 46, of Pleasantville was traveling east on Rt. 30, when his vehicle struck a pedestrian. 
The pedestrian, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced deceased on the scene. 
The road was closed for approximately three (3) hours while Police investigated the scene. No summonses have been issued as the investigation is still ongoing.
Galloway Twp. Ambulance Squad, AtlantiCare Medics, New Jersey Medical Examiner’s Office, Stockton Police Dept., Absecon Police Dept., NJ State Police, NJDOT assisted in the accident scene.

Local Barber Shop Robbed; Police Search for Suspect

On Saturday August 29, 2015 at approximately 3:50 pm, the Absecon Police Department responded to a robbery at 129 New Jersey Avenue (Olivia’s Barber Shop). 

The witnesses advised that a white male standing at approximately six foot three inches with a skinny build, wearing a beige baseball cap, blond curly hair, a black hoodie, black sunglasses, and dark colored pants entered the store through the front door and immediately reached over the counter grabbing the cash draw. 

The male proceeded to take the draw and fled the store on foot. The male was last seen running north in the wooded area towards the cemetery on church street.

Guns, Drugs Seized from Egg Harbor Township Home; Charges Filed

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - A narcotics investigation resulted in the arrest of an Egg Harbor Township man and the seizure of heroin, Fentanyl and two (2) assault rifles, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.

On August 26, 2015 the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at 114 Tiffany Lane in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey as the result of a month long heroin distribution investigation.

As a result of the arrest and subsequent search, authorities seized two assault rifles, 1242 bags of heroin, Fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and cutting agents. The estimated street value of the seized heroin is approximately $10,000.

Atlantic City Man Guilty of Aggravated Manslaughter for 2011 Shooting

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City man pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter today for the fatal shooting of a man found dead inside his Atlantic City home in 2011, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Feb. 16, 2011, at 1:45 p.m., officers of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to the Lighthouse Plaza, 300 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, for the report of an odor emanating from a residence.
Police found the body of Bruce Bowers, 48, dead inside his apartment.
Atlantic City Police detectives, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Atlantic County Medical Examiner were called to the scene.

Reckless Manslaughter Charges Issued Against Manalapan Man for 2014 Death

MAYS LANDING – A Manalapan man was arrested yesterday for reckless manslaughter in connection with the November 2014 death of a 27-year-old Howell, NJ, man, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
At 1:19 a.m. on November 1, 2014, emergency medical personnel responded to Harrah’s Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City for a report of an injury caused by a fall. Thomas J. Walker, 27, of Howell, NJ, was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center—City Division with a head injury.
Walker died in the hospital on November 15, 2014.
An autopsy performed the following day by Southern Regional Medical Examiner, Dr. Ian Hood, determined cause of death to be head injury, and the manner: homicide.

Search Warrant on Galloway Home Leads to Drug Arrest

On August 20, 2015, a search warrant was executed by the Galloway Twp. Police Dept. and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Guns, Gangs, and Narcotics Unit in the 500 block of S. Chicago Ave. in regards to a narcotics investigation.  


As a result of the search warrant, a large amount of cocaine was located at the residence.  

Harith Nellom, 37, of Galloway was then arrested and charged with Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin/Cocaine), Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.  

Harith Nellom was lodged in the Atlantic County Jail in lieu of $250,000.00 bail.

Galloway Police Conduct 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' Campaign


Impaired Driving Enforcement Crackdown to be
Conducted Locally as Part of National Campaign


(GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP) -- Law enforcement officers from Galloway will be cracking down on drunk drivers as part of the 2015 Labor Day Statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.  Beginning August 21 and running through September 7, local and state law enforcement officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols, looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.

Investigation in Galloway after Fire Destroys Vacant Home

On August 17, 2015 at approximately 11:22 p.m., a house fire was reported on the 400 Block of S. Poplar Avenue on Monday evening.  Pomona Fire Company arrived and found heavy fire showing from the vacant residence.  The fire was brought under control just before midnight.

Pomona Fire Company was assisted by firefighters from Bayview, Germania, and South Egg Harbor.  Oceanville and Cologne firefighters provided coverage to the Township during the fire.

Atlantic City Electric Donates $50,000 to Red Cross Disaster Relief

MAYS LANDING, N.J. — Atlantic City Electric recently presented $50,000 to the American Red Cross Southern Shore Chapter in support of Red Cross storm-related disaster relief efforts. The donation will assist the Red Cross in providing emergency assistance in times of crisis. Atlantic City Electric previously donated a total of $75,000 to support Red Cross disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Sandy and the Derecho storm in 2012.

Male Juvenile Found Dead in Pleasantville Field; Police Seek Information

PLEASANVTILLE – A Pleasantville man was found in an open field Friday afternoon, dead of gunshot wounds, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
Pleasantville Police responded on Friday, August 7, 2015, to the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue in Max Manning Park, for a report of a body found lying in the field. Upon arrival, police found the dead body of male juvenile from Pleasantville.
An autopsy performed the next morning by Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office Dr. Gerald Feigin determined that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and that the manner of death was homicide.

Egg Harbor City Man Indicted for Manslaughter in Death of Absecon Man

PLEASANTVILLE – An Egg Harbor City man was indicted for manslaughter last week In connection with the death last February of an Absecon man, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at approximately 9:49 p.m., Pleasantville Police responded with emergency medical responders to an 800 block North Main Street business parking lot. Upon arrival, officers found Kyle Athill, 30, of Absecon, NJ, lying unconscious on the ground.
Athill was transported to the AtlanticCare Medical Center—City Division, with a life- threatening head injury.

Three Injured in Early Morning Crash on Wrangleboro Road; Summons Pending

On August 8, 2015 at approximately 12:19am, a blue Chrysler Concord, operated by Nicole Honrychs (20) of Mullica Hill, was traveling north on Wrangleboro Rd. when it crossed the center line of the roadway, and struck a 2012 Chevy Malibu, operated by Anthonee Waterford-Williams (21) of Galloway Twp., that was traveling south on Wrangleboro Rd.

Both vehicles sustained severe front end damage, and had to be towed from the scene

The driver of the Chrysler had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Fire Dept. and was transported to ACRMC Mainland Division for internal injuries and lacerations.

House Fire Under Investigation; Residents Evacuated Unharmed

On August 7, 2015 at 3:16am the Galloway Township Police Department and several Galloway Township Fire Companies responded to 548 Falmouth Court for a residence that was engulfed in flames.  

All of the residents were quickly evacuated unharmed, but the residence sustained heavy fire damage.  One of the neighbors residences was also evacuated until the fire was brought under control by the fire companies.  

One Fatality, Several Injuries in Multi-Vehicle Accident on the White Horse Pike

On August 6, 2015 at approximately 7:52 p.m., Galloway Township Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle accident on the White Horse Pike.

A 2005 Hyundai driven by Kay Campbell 45, of Egg Harbor was traveling west on US 30 when it crossed the center line of the roadway. The Hyundai struck the left rear side of a 2009 Dodge driven by Marisa Cowan 29, of Hammonton as she traveled east. 

The Hyundai continued traveling west in the eastbound lanes striking a 2004 Toyota driven by Donald Kleinschmidt 62, of Absecon as he traveled east.

Minnesota Man Indicted for Attempting to Lure 14-year old Female to Hotel

ATLANTIC CITY – A Minnesota man was indicted yesterday for attempting to lure a 14- year-old female to a hotel room with the purpose of committing a crime against her, and for engaging in criminal sexual contact, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
Yesterday morning, August 4, 2015, an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Daniel P. Jorgensen, 30, of the 1000 block of Hackmann Circle NE, Minneapolis, MN on two counts:

Child Abducted, Recovered in Absecon; Female Charged With Being a Fugitive, Kidnapping

On August 2, 2015 at 11:45 pm Absecon Police and Atlantic City detectives acted on information obtained through the day that an abducted child out of West Virginia was tracked to Holiday Inn Express located at 655 White Horse Pike. 

After the suspects initially refused to answer the hotel room door several rooms on the 3rd floor were evacuated. The occupants of the accused room were eventually negotiated with over the phone and exited the room to be taken into custody.

Absecon Police Investigating Two Commercial Burglaries

On Saturday July 29th 2015, the Absecon Police Department handled two separate commercial burglaries. 

During the early morning hours, two subjects forcibly entered the Absecon Dunkin' Donuts and removed two cash registers from the business. 

Dunkin' Suspect 1 - Light skinned male wearing a sweatshirt which consists of a solid white back and solid black front. It also has a black stripe down each sleeve. The male also is wearing black Nike sneakers and a partial face mask.
