Galloway Bank Robbers Caught, Arrested in New York City

On January 24, 2018, the Galloway Township Police Department responded to the Wells Fargo Bank located at 273 W. White Horse Pike for a robbery.  A check of the area by numerous officers from Galloway Township and surrounding jurisdictions was undertaken but the suspect was not immediately located.

As a result of a joint investigation involving the Galloway Township Police Department, Stafford Township Police Department, the New York Police Department, and the New Jersey and New York offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, two suspects were identified, located, and arrested in connection with multiple bank robberies in the New York and New Jersey Area.

Accidental Discharge of Firearm Leaves One Injured with Self Inflicted Wound

On Saturday, January 27, 2018, at approximately 6:48 p.m., Galloway Township Police were dispatched to a residence on the 500 block of South Pitney Road for the report of a shooting.  

Upon arrival, police located the victim and determined it was a self inflicted wound as a result of the accidental discharge of a .357 Sig caliber handgun, owned by the victim. 

Police applied a tourniquet to control bleeding and the victim was transported via Galloway Township Ambulance Squad, accompanied by AtlantiCare Paramedics, to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center – City Division with non life-threatening injuries.

Absecon Police Officer Suspended 30-Days and Loses Accrued Time for Inappropriate Comment to Another Officer

An Absecon Police Officer was suspended and required to surrender accrued time off as part of disciplinary action for making inappropriate comments to another police officer. 

After a six-month long investigation and multiple Open Public Records Requests, it appears only one member of the Absecon Police Department, according to the documents released by the City, matched the description of the employee that received a 30 working day suspension and surrendered accrual time to the equivalent of approximately $12,000.  It appears that individual was Chief of Police John DeRitis, Jr. 

According to Payroll Records and Time Cards as released by the City of Absecon, Chief DeRitis was on unpaid leave for 30 working days from May 10, 2017 up to and including June 20, 2017, returning on June 21, 2017. Mayor John Armstrong appointed James R. Laughlin as Acting Chief from 4pm on May 9, 2017 until 8:00am on June 21, 2017, the date Chief DeRitis returned to work. Wells Fargo Bank in Galloway Robbed; Police Search for Suspect

On January 24, 2018 at approximately 4:10 p.m. the Wells Fargo Bank at 273 West White Horse Pike in the Pomona section of Galloway Township was robbed. 

The suspect entered the bank and gave the teller a note. He then fled on foot from the bank running northbound on Pomona Road. 

No weapons were observed during the incident. The male is described as a white male, medium build, approximately 5’8” to 5’10” in his late 20’s or early 30’s. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with grey sweatpants and running sneakers. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Absecon Man Tries to Elude Galloway Police; Faces Drug and Other Charges

On January 14, 2018 at 2:11 p.m., Galloway Township Police Officer Gandhi attempted to make a motor vehicle stop of a 1999 Ford F-150 at Aloe Street and Robin Lane. According to Police the vehicle was operated by Jordan Ragland, 26 of Absecon.  

Ragland failed to stop and attempted to elude Officer Gandhi by driving behind Absecon Mills where he struck a storage container. Ragland fled the scene in the vehicle and was apprehended at the end of Robin Lane where he surrendered to police.  

K9 Rocky of the Galloway Township Police K9 Unit responded and conducted a search of the vehicle locating 224 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine.
