Local FBI Employee Arrested for Child Pornography; Possession and Distribution

On January 13, 2015, Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato announced the arrest of Michael J. Peluso, 44, of Toms River, NJ, for the Possession and Distribution of images of children under the age of 18 engaged in prohibited sexual acts.

According to documents released, Peluso has been identified as an employee of the US Department of Justice - Federal Bureau of Investigation. Peluso is listed as a Civilian Analyst - MST; an undercover unit in the FBI under the Critical Incident Response Group. 

The Ocean County High Tech Crime Unit, with assistance from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations, Toms River Police Department and the New Jersey State Police, executed a search warrant at 2149 South Street, Toms River, NJ.

Galloway Police Arrest Two in Robbery of Teenager

On Monday, January 26, 2015 at 2:55 p.m., Galloway Township Police responded to the area of Liberty Court in reference to the report of a strong arm robbery.  

Upon arrival police met with the 16-year old male victim who stated while walking home from school he was approached by two males on Liberty Court.  The 17-year old suspect grabbed the victim from behind in a bear hug pinning down the victim’s arms.

Two Juveniles Robbed at Gunpoint in Galloway for Sneakers and Cell Phone

On Saturday, January 24, 2015, at approximately 10:00 p.m., two juveniles were robbed at gun point on the 400 block of Ebony Tree Lane, Galloway Township.  

Three pairs of Nike sneakers and a cell phone were taken during the robbery. Two suspects, one armed with a small black or silver handgun described as tall thin Hispanic male 17-20 years held the victim at gunpoint while taking the sneakers.

Ventnor Man Convicted of Murder for Fatal Shooting Eight Years Ago

MAYS LANDING – A Ventnor man was convicted of murder in Atlantic County Superior Court for the fatal shooting eight (8) years ago of an Atlantic City man, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
Today, an Atlantic County jury found Laquay Williams, 36, of Ventnor, NJ, guilty of murder and three weapons possession charges for the 2006 shooting death of Atlantic City resident Jerrod Moss, 20, whose body was found in an Atlantic City parking lot.
On December 29, 2006, after 4:00 a.m., Atlantic City Police and the Atlantic County Major Crimes Unit responded to a New York Avenue parking lot for the report of a shooting. Jerrod Moss was found lying in a parking lot, the victim of a gunshot wound to the head. Moss was pronounced dead at the scene.

Atlantic City Police Officer Pled Guilty to Official Misconduct; Sexual Assault on Teenager

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City Police officer pled guilty today to official misconduct for exploiting his position as a police officer in order to sexually assault a child, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Monday, May 19, 2014, as a result of an investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, with the assistance of the Atlantic City Police Department, Atlantic City Police officer Andre L. Corbin, 44, of Northridge Drive, Mays Landing, was arrested without incident in Atlantic City.

Linwood Man Faces Aggravated Assault Charges on Police Officer; K-9 Dog

ATLANTIC COUNTY —A Linwood man was indicted today in connection with the assault on an Atlantic City police officer in 2013, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
This morning, Tuesday, January 20, 2015, an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted David Connor Castellani, 22, of the 1000 block of Woodland Boulevard, Linwood, NJ, on three (3) criminal counts in connection with the June 15, 2013 assault of an Atlantic City Police Officer while the officer was in the performance of his duties. Castellani was indicted for:
  • Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer—a crime of the3rd degree, Resisting Arrest with threats or use of force or violence—a 3rd degree crime, and Inflicting Harm on a Law Enforcement Animal—a 4th degree crime.

Police Seek Suspects in Armed Robbery at Galloway Motel

At approximately 10:35 p.m. on January 20, 2015 two males were robbed at gunpoint by three black males inside their hotel room at the Tri Way Motel located at 248 East White Horse Pike in Galloway Township.  

The two victims were robbed of their wallets, cash and cell phones.  All three suspects were armed with small sub-machine guns.  The suspects fled the scene in a green BMW X3 or X5 type SUV.  The suspects descriptions are as follows:

Galloway Promotes Four Officers; First Female Lieutenant in Galloway History

Galloway Township Mayor Don Purdy administered the Oath of Office to four Galloway Township Police Officers promoted at Tuesday's Council Meeting. 

Two Sergeant First Class and two Lieutenants, including the first female Lieutenant in Galloway History. Donna Higbee has become the first female officer to serve in the rank of Lieutenant for Galloway Township.  

Higbee was promoted from Sergeant to Lieutenant. Higbee has served with Galloway Police Department for 13-years, Chief Patrick Moran said during Tuesday nights Council meeting.  Higbee served as Acting Captain for a short period of time prior to her final appointment to Lieutenant

Egg Harbor City Police Blotter December 22, 2014 to January 10, 2015

Egg Harbor City Police have released their Police Blotter for the week of December 22, 2014 to January 10, 2015.  Arrests consist of DWI, contempt of court, and unlawful acts.

Nathaniel B. Daley, 35, of Galloway was arrested by Ptl. Mike Luko for contempt of court on December 22, 2014.

Anthony L. Lawrence, 33, of Evesham was arrested by SLEO Pat Aiken for contempt of court on December 22, 2014.

Erwin Jerome Ashworth, Jr., 43, of Egg Harbor City was arrested by Ptl. Brian McKenna for unlawful acts on December 23, 2014.

Franklin Township Woman Sentenced 5-years for Vehicular Homicide

MAYS LANDING – A Franklin Township woman was sentenced to State prison yesterday in connection with a 2011 motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of an 81-year-old woman, and injured two others, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
Yesterday, January 15, Amanda Dean, 28, of the 500 block of Old Harding Highway, Franklin Township, Gloucester County, was sentenced in Atlantic County Superior Court to 5 years in prison for vehicular homicide.
On June 18, 2011, Dean was driving north on Tuckahoe Road in Buena Vista Township with two passengers in the car: Charles Palmieri, 25, of Williamstown in the front passenger seat, and a 2-year-old boy, seated in a child car seat in the rear of the vehicle.

Multi-Vehicle Accident in Galloway Causes Power Outage, Downed Utility Pole

On January 16, 2015 the Galloway Township Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle accident at approximately 5:53 p.m. 

The accident involved four motor vehicles and occurred at the intersection of Tilton Rd. and Racetrack Rd. in Galloway Township.  

One of the vehicle struck a utility pole causing power, cable and phone lines to snap.  The utility lines were downed across the roadway, causing the intersection to be shut down until the utility companies could make repairs and restore service.

Atlantic City Man Convicted of Drug and Weapon Charges

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City man was convicted Wednesday of possession of heroin and unlawful possession of a handgun, County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
On Wednesday, January 7, 2015, an Atlantic County jury found Marwin McKoy, 34, of the 100 block of Chesapeake Ave., Atlantic City, guilty of handgun possession offenses, and possession of heroin.
On August 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., members of the New Jersey State Police Weapons Trafficking Unit, conducting surveillance in Atlantic City, arrested McKoy on Michigan Avenue in possession of a loaded .22 caliber handgun and 20 bags of heroin.

Police Identify Body Found in Northfield; Gunshot Wound to Head

NORTHFIELD – The man found dead outside a Northfield home yesterday has been identified, and the autopsy completed, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
The Northfield Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office responded to Virginia Avenue, Northfield, at approximately 11:00 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 9, 2015, where a man had been discovered dead on the front lawn of a residence, with a head wound.
The victim has been identified as Franklin Dwayne Gant Smith, 52, who had also been known as Kevin Charm. Smith’s address is unknown.

Pedestrian Struck by Multiple Cars and Killed on the White Horse Pike in Galloway

On January 9, 2015 at 10:27 p.m., the Galloway Township Police Department responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian motor vehicle accident in the area of Rt 30 and 8th Avenue. 

Upon arrival officers discovered James Osler 52, of Galloway lying in the middle of the west bound roadway. Osler was struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene. 

He was then struck by other vehicles while down in the roadway. Those drivers stopped and called 911. Osler was pronounced deceased on scene a short time later.

Police Investigating Male Body Found Outside Northfield Home

NORTHFIELD – A man was found dead today outside a Northfield home, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
The Northfield Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to Virginia Avenue, Northfield, at approximately 11:00 a.m. today, Jan. 9, 2015, where a man had been discovered dead on the front lawn of a residence.
The victim has not yet been identified. An autopsy is being performed to determine cause and manner of death.

Brigantine Police Officer Indicted; Ten Criminal Counts in Connection with Sexual Assault of Child

ATLANTIC COUNTY —A Brigantine police officer was indicted this afternoon for the sexual assault of a 16-year-old female victim, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
Today, Thursday, January 8, 2015, an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Brigantine Police Officer Ralph M. Pereira, 44, of the 5000 block of Ontario Avenue, Brigantine, NJ, on ten (10) criminal counts, in connection with the sexual assault of a child in 2012 and 2013:
  • 1) 2 counts of Sexual Assault—a 2nd degree crime, 

  • 2) 3 counts of Official Misconduct—a 2nd degree crime, 
  • 3) 3 counts of 2nd degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 
  • 4) 1 count of 3rd degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and 
  • 5) 1 count of Criminal Sexual Contact—a 4th degree crime,

Folsom Man Pleads Guilty in 2013 Stabbing Death of 30-year-old Woman

MAYS LANDING – A Folsom man pled guilty Friday in connection with the 2013 stabbing death of the 30-year-old woman with whom he lived, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
On Friday, January 2, 2015, Darrin K. Plumlee, 45, of 105 Lenape Terrace, Williamstown, in Folsom Boro, pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter for the stabbing death of Merry Abernathy, 30, of the same address.
At approximately 8:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2013, New Jersey State Police responded to 105 Lenape Terrace, Folsom. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of Abernathy inside the home, dead of multiple stab wounds.

Galloway Police Investigate Fatal Accident on Pomona Road After Driver Runs Stop Sign

On January 3, 2015 at 6:19 p.m., Galloway Township Police responded to motor vehicle collision at Pomona Road and Aloe Street. 

A 2001 Toyota Corolla driven by Kathia Cruz 33, of Galloway was traveling east on Aloe Street when it ran the stop sign located at Pomona Road. The vehicle was struck by a 2008 Jeep Wrangler driven by Robert Gardner 38, also of Galloway as it traveled south on Pomona Rd. After the impact, both vehicles left the roadway before coming to a final rest. 

The driver and rear passenger of the Toyota had to be extricated from the vehicle by Pomona Fire Company. Two passengers from the Toyota were transported to ARMC City Division for serious injuries. 

Township Settles Lawsuit and Pays $92,000 to Former Township Manager Stephen Bonanni

Galloway Township has settled another lawsuit and further agreed to pay out $92,000. The recipient of the payout was former Township Manager Stephen Bonanni.

Bonnani filed a lawsuit against the Township and Mayor Don Purdy in September 2013. The settlement which was made in November 2014 agreed to pay Bonanni $92,000, and in turn Bonanni agreed to dismiss all claims against the Township.

The lawsuit filed on September 26, 2013 in Atlantic County Superior Court alleged fourteen (14) counts which includes Breach of Contract, False Light Privacy Invasion, Defamation/Slander Pre Se and Conscientious Employee Protection Act, to name a few.
