Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle on Route 40

Hamilton Township Police are investigating a serious Motor Vehicle crash which occurred on March 27, 2014 at 8:50 am.
A Pedestrian identified as Iyana Davis of Mays Landing (age 39) was on the shoulder of Route 40 at approximately milepost 44.5 waiting to cross the roadway when  she was struck by a westbound vehicle.  

The vehicle, a Hyundai operated by Caesar Niglio Jr, age 70, of Northfield N.J. left the roadway and struck Davis.  Davis was thrown approx 25 feet onto the dirt portion of the shoulder of the roadway.
Niglio stated that he left the roadway when he swerved to avoid a truck that had stopped suddenly in front of him.  He lost control, struck Davis, then struck a bus shelter.
Davis was treated on the scene by Galloway Rescue Squad, Medic 12 and flown by Southstar to Atlanticare- City Division.  Niglio was transported to Mainland for evaluation.

Westbound traffic was diverted for approximately 1 hour during the investigation.  Ofc. J. Esposito of the Hamilton Township Police Department is investigating the crash and charges are pending at this time.
