Police Investigate Shooting Death of Male Teenager in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY – Law enforcement is investigating the shooting death early yesterday morning of an Atlantic City teenager, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

Atlantic City Police responded on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 12:49 a.m., to the 1400 block of Magellan Avenue, Atlantic City, in response to several 9-1-1 calls, reporting that a male had been shot. Atlantic City EMS, AtlanticCare paramedics, and detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit also responded.

Upon arrival, police found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center—City Campus, where he was later pronounced dead by Dr. Reece Alkire at 1:21 a.m.

Greater Egg School Board Meeting Turns Confrontational with "Vote of No Confidence" in Superintendent John Keenan

The labor strife existing between school employees and the administration and Board of the Greater Egg Harbor School District inched up another notch Monday evening and continues to escalate while morale continues to goes down for the over 400 members of the Greater Egg Harbor Regional Education Association who have been working without a contract since June 30. 

The Association represents the teachers and support staffs in Absegami High School, Oakcrest High School and Cedar Creek High School. 

At what began as a normal and calm regular Board meeting Monday evening, quickly deteriorated to a loud and raucous back and forth between the Board members and the staff members. 

At the open session to the public, Myron Plotkin, NJEA Representative and negotiator for the Association made the first statement to the Board. He first addressed the procrastination by the Board in setting a date for face to face negotiations prior to the super-conciliation session scheduled for Nov. 21.

Mullica Couple Charged with Endangering the Welfare of Child

MULLICA TOWNSHIP – A man and woman from Mullica Township were arrested this week for endangering the welfare of a child for whom they had a legal duty to provide care, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

A six-month investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit and the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) resulted Thursday, October 13, 2016, in a direct presentment of the case to an Atlantic County Grand Jury. The Grand Jury indicted:

• William Hilbert, a 36-year-old male, and 
• Brenda VanLeer, a 31-year-old female, who reside together on the 5200 block of the White Horse Pike in Mullica Twp, NJ, for: 

1. Endangering the Welfare of a Child by Abuse or Neglect—a crime of the 2nd degree, and 
2. Aggravated Assault of the 4-year-old female child—a 3rd degree crime. 

Somerdale Man Identified as Victim in Fatal Shooting in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY – A Somerdale, NJ, man was shot and killed late last night in Atlantic City, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

In response to a 9-1-1 call, Atlantic City Police responded last night, Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at 9:19 p.m. to the area of South Carolina and Baltic Avenue, Atlantic City. Emergency medical responders were also dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, police found Kevin Ortiz, 20, of Somerdale, NJ, the apparent victim of a fatal shooting. Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit detectives responded to the scene.

Absegami Marching Braves to Host 35th Annual Indian Summer Band Competition

The Absegami High School Marching Braves, under the direction of Jon Porco, will host their 35^th Annual Indian Summer Band Competition on Saturday, October 29, 2016. 

This US BANDS competition includes high school marching bands from Delran, Audubon, Hammonton, Lenape, Sterling, Williamstown, and Manchester High Schools. The competition will begin at 5 pm at the Absegami Stadium, Wrangleboro Road, in Galloway, NJ.  

Tickets are $12 for Adults, and $8 for Students and Seniors.  Step-off is at 5 pm and the gates open at 4:30 pm.

Mays Landing Man Convicted of Sexually Assaulting a Galloway Woman

MAYS LANDING – A 27-year-old Newark man was convicted yesterday of Aggravated Sexual Assault While Armed With a Weapon for the 2015 sexual assault of a Galloway Township woman, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

On Thursday afternoon, October 13, 2016, at the conclusion of a 3-day trial, an Atlantic County Jury found Patric D. Reed-Price, 27, of 12th Street, Newark, NJ, guilty of six criminal counts, in connection with the July 10, 2015 sexual assault of a 31-year-old woman inside her Galloway Township home. Reed-Price was convicted of:

•   Aggravated Sexual Assault While Armed With and Threatening to Use a Weapon—a crime of the 1st degree, 
•   Terroristic Threats—a 3rd degree crime, 
•   Criminal Trespass, for entering the dwelling of the victim—4th degree, 
•   Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Knife)—4th degree, 
•   Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose—3rd degree, and 
•   Witness Tampering—a 3rd degree crime. 

On July 10, 2015 at 9:54 p.m., police officers of the Galloway Township Police Department responded to a home on South New York Road, Galloway Township, for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, police heard a female screaming from inside the home, and located the female victim and Reed-Price inside the residence. 

Mullica Twp. Man Indicted for Murder in Shooting Death of Wife

MULLICA TWP – A Mullica Township man was indicted for murder, in connection with the shooting death of his wife at their home in 2014, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

On May 26, 2014, at 9:24 a.m., the Mullica Township Police responded to 4901 Pleasant Mills Road for a 9-1-1 report of the shooting death of Lynn DeRosa, 57, of that address. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit also responded.

An autopsy performed on May 27, 2014 by Dr. Marianne Hamel, of the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, determined the cause of death to be a shotgun wound to the head, and the manner of death: homicide.

Driver Ditches Vehicle During Car Stop and Runs; Galloway Police Seek Suspect

On October 10, 2016, at approx 3:35 pm, Galloway Township Patrol Officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop of a gold 2001 Nissan Sentra, in the area of the White Horse Pike and Berlin Avenue.  

The vehicle pulled into the lot for Integrity Transportation and the lone occupant, a black male driver, bailed from the vehicle and ran into the woods.  

K-9 responded and tracked into the woods North of Rt. 30, between Berlin and Bremen Avenues  however the suspect was not apprehended.  The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.  

Linwood Man Distributed Pornographic Images of Children; Charged with Endangering Welfare of Children

ATLANTIC CITY – Authorities arrested a Linwood man yesterday, charged with endangering the welfare children by sharing pornographic images of children via the internet, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

A two-week investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the Linwood Police Department, and the United States Probation Office—Camden, NJ resulted in the arrest yesterday of Brian S. Posner, 31, of the 700 block of Maple Avenue, Linwood, NJ.

Posner was charged, and arrested without incident at his home yesterday, Wednesday, October 5, 2016, by detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and officers of the Linwood Police Department. He was transported to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office to be processed for the arrest, then lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 cash only / no 10% bail, set by Municipal Court Judge Timothy P. McGuire.

Galloway Man, Mays Landing Woman Charged with Identity Theft; Money Laundering

GALLOWAY TWP – A Mays Landing woman and a Galloway Township man were charged and arrested by detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office for conspiring to obtain—and obtaining—the personal credit card information of more than 40 customers of a local bank, and using that information to make over $20,000.00 worth of unauthorized transactions, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

An investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit, assisted by the Corporate Investigations Department of Wells Fargo and management of the Route 30 Pomona branch of the Wells Fargo Bank, resulted in the following charges issued on August 22, 2016, against Kyesha Muhammad, 33, of the 2600 block of Dogwood Court, Mays Landing, NJ. and Larry Gilliam Jr., 38, of the 600 block of Lakefront Circle, Galloway Township, NJ.:

Galloway Police Warn Residents About "Creepy Clown" Sightings

Over the course of the last two weeks, several Galloway Township residents have reported sightings of people wearing clown masks. 

Galloway Township Police responded to all calls that were reported and were unable to locate any of these subjects.  Additionally, a concerning photo of our high school has been posted to social media by an anonymous “creepy clown.”  

We have investigated each and every incident thoroughly and it appears these actions were pranks, similar to those seen around the country.  We are closely monitoring the situation and have increased patrols in the vicinity of our schools as well as recreational areas as a precaution. 

Purse Snatcher Caught and Arrested by Galloway Police

On October 5, 2016 at approximately 8:36 p.m., a purse belonging to a female victim, of Hammonton, was stolen from the back of her chair as she dined at the Assagio Restaurant.  

The suspect walked in to the restaurant a short time before committing the crime. The suspect, later identified as Andrew Harder, 28 of Tuckerton, NJ fled the scene West on the White Horse Pike, dropping the purse, but keeping the victims Louis Vuitton wallet and its contents. 

Atlantic City Man Charged with Murder from January 2016 Shooting

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City man was charged and arrested today for the January 2016 killing of Steven Loughney inside his Atlantic City home, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

In response to a 9-1-1 call, Atlantic City Police responded on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at 9:47 p.m. to a residence on the 200 block of South Metropolitan Avenue, Atlantic City, where the resident, Steven Loughney, 28, had been discovered dead inside his home, the victim of a shooting. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit also responded to the scene.

Galloway Pedestrian Struck and Killed Identified as Retired Township Tax Assessor

On October 5, 2016 at 8:04 p.m., Galloway Township Police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at Jimmie Leeds Road and Ridgewood Avenue.

According to Police, witnesses and evidence show that David T. Jackson, 61 of Galloway, was walking on Jimmie Leeds Road and crossed, southbound across the roadway, towards Ridgewood Avenue. 

During this time, a silver 2002 Honda Accord, being operated by Bria M. O’Brien, 23, of Galloway, was traveling eastbound on Jimmie Leeds Road when Jackson crossed Jimmie Leeds Road directly into the path of O’Brien’s vehicle and was struck.

Superintendent Dishonest on School Safety Issues; Greater Egg Faculty & Staff Speak Out

In the wake of a recent loaded gun incident at Absegami High School, Greater Egg Harbor Regional faculty and staff are speaking out about the lack of a proactive approach to security issues by Superintendent John Keenan and his dishonesty about the district’s safety procedures. 

Since the beginning of the school year, there have been 572 disciplinary issues reported at the three high schools. These incidents include dangerous/unsafe behavior, disorderly conduct, threats, fights/physical altercations, and weapons offenses. That’s an average of 26 incidents every day that school has been in session during September of this school year. 

Some of the students involved in these incidents were known to have serious behavior issues at the middle school level. In fact, they were recommended for out of school placement, but the district chose to keep them. 

EHT Man Indicted on Murder, Attempted Murder Charges of Pleasantville Couple

MAYS LANDING – An Egg Harbor Township man was indicted this week for the murder of a man and the attempted murder of a woman, in the December 2015 attack of both victims inside their Pleasantville home, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.

In response to a 9-1-1 call, Pleasantville Police officers and emergency medical personnel responded on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 9:23 p.m. to a home on the 100 block of Greenfield Avenue, Pleasantville, for a report that two residents of the home had been discovered inside incapacitated—both bleeding and suffering from significant physical trauma.

The victims were identified as Jahlil Hunter, a 30-year-old male, and Ebony Harris, a 22- year-old female, both of the Greenfield Avenue, Pleasantville address. They were transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center—City Division for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Harris was later transferred to Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ.
