Egg Harbor Township Man Indicted for Murder of Pleasantville Man in 2010


MAYS LANDING – An Egg Harbor Township man has been indicted for the murder of a Pleasantville man, who was fatally shot in 2010, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, Jerome Byrd, 29, was indicted for murder and weapons offenses in connection with the fatal shooting of Scott Godfrey, 21. On May 10, 2010, Godfrey was fatally shot multiple times outside of a convenience store located on West Park Avenue in Pleasantville.

Following a three-year-long investigation conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Pleasantville Police Department, Byrd was charged with the murder.
On July 2, 2013, members of the Major Crimes Unit, the Pleasantville Police Department and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department apprehended Byrd at a mobile home on the 6000 block of the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township.
Byrd remains lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $1 million cash bail.
