Two Men Arrested for Stealing Cooking Oil from Area Restaurants

The Absecon Police arrested two males from Newark, NJ as they were stealing cooking oil from the Mt. Fuji Japanese, Sushi Bar located at 136 White Horse Pike on November 15. 
Ptl. Daniel Howell was patrolling the area when he came upon a Ford van parked on the sidewalk on NJ Ave at approximately 4:30 am. 
The two males, identified as Vincent Torres, age 35 and Steven Cruz, age 37 both of Newark were syphoning the cooking oil from a storage tank in the rear of the restaurant.
Torres and Cruz had also attempted to take the used cooking oil from the Black Cat Tavern earlier in the morning. Both suspects had been identified from an incident reported on November 6 by the owners of the Black Cat Tavern when they took used cooking oil from a storage tank in the rear of the property. 

The police were able to identify the suspects from video surveillance from each business. They were also suspects in incidents that occurred in Somers Point and Hamilton Twp. earlier in the month

Torres and Cruz were both charged with theft and conspiracy for the incident at Mt. Fuji as well as Criminal attempt theft and conspiracy for the incident at the Black Cat Tavern earlier in the morning. They were also charged with theft and conspiracy for the theft on November 6th at the Black Cat. Bail was set at $5,000.00 with a 10% option.

Somers Point Police also charged the suspects with burglary, theft and conspiracy for the incident on reported on October 19th. Bail on this matter was set at $5000.00 full cash. Charges are pending in Hamilton Twp. for their theft. Both suspects were unable to post bail and were lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

What incident in Somers Point on October 19th? And why would someone want to steal lard? It all seems so bizarre.

Surprisingly it can be made into a bio fuel. There is a market for it.

Yeah, I googled that and found that out. I used to have to throw that stuff out in my old job. Truly disgusting smelly stuff. The smell of money to them I guess.
