Man Driving 146-mph on White Horse Pike Charged by Mullica Police

The Mullica Township Police Department reports the following incident that occurred i the early morning on April 17, 2014.

Corporal Jake O’Hara and Patrolman Mike Jamerson were on routine patrol at approximately 3:55am when both officers were traveling West on Rt. 30 in separate patrol cars near Darmstadt Avenue. 

A 2012 Cadillac CTS operating at an extremely high speed approached the officers from behind them. The Cadillac passed both officers recklessly and continued West on the White Horse Pike (Route 30). 

The vehicle was clocked on police radar at 146 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. 

The officers attempted to stop the vehicle but quickly terminated a pursuit once it was clear that the operator of the Cadillac was ignoring the officers’ attempt to stop him. 

The officers were able to get the vehicle’s registration number. A subsequent investigation conducted with the help of the Hammonton Police Department led to the arrest of a Robert F. Gibase, 51 yrs of age. 

Gibase currently resides in Covington, Louisiana; he previously resided Hammonton, N.J. Gibase was charged with eluding in the 3rd degree and related traffic offenses; he is being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.


The speed that Mr. Gibase is accused of traveling is nearly 3 times the posted limit. 

This event could have easily turned tragic for anyone that encountered the vehicle including the accused. It is fortunate that no innocent person was injured or affected by the actions of the accused.
