EGG HARBOR CITY – A joint investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Unit, the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office, and the Egg Harbor City Police Department, resulted yesterday in the arrests of four Egg Harbor City residents for narcotic-related charges, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.
Yesterday evening, Thursday, July 21, 2016, at approximately 8:55 p.m., detectives initiated a motor vehicle stop of a car containing three men. The driver initially attempted to elude police, but was eventually stopped in the 1000 block of Buffalo Avenue, Egg Harbor City, where the three men were arrested from the vehicle.
(1) Passenger Marcus Campbell, 21, of the 1000 block of Cincinnati Avenue, EHC, was charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of less than 1/2 ounce of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Heroin within 1000 feet of school property with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of over 1 ounce of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute—all crimes of the 2nd degree, Possession of Heroin within 500 feet of school property with Intent to Distribute—a 2nd degree crime, and Possession of Marijuana—a Disorderly Persons offense. Campbell was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 full cash bail.
(2) Passenger Daniel Mateo, 19, of the 1000 block of Buffalo Avenue, EHC, was charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of less than 1/2 ounce of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Heroin within 1000 feet of school property with Intent to Distribute—all crimes of the 3rd degree, Possession of Heroin within 500 feet of school property with Intent to Distribute—a 2nd degree crime, and Possession of Marijuana—a Disorderly Persons offense.
Mateo was issued a summons complaint, and released on his own recognizance.
(3) The Driver, Kenneth Burrell, Jr., 39, of the 200 block of Cincinnati Avenue, EHC, was charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of less than 1/2 ounce of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Heroin within 1000 feet of school property with Intent to Distribute,—all crimes of the 2nd degree, Possession of Heroin within 500 feet of school property with Intent to Distribute—a 2nd degree crime, Eluding Law Enforcement Officers in a Motor Vehicle—2nd degree, and was also detained on outstanding child support and municipal court warrants.
Burrell was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $200,000 full cash bail.
Seized during the arrests were 225 wax paper folds of heroin weighing 67.5 grams, over one ounce of marijuana, and over $2500.00 in U. S. currency.
4) On a separate motor vehicle stop earlier in the evening, Detectives also arrested Edgardo Martinez, 28, of Washington Avenue, EHC, on a warrant issued as a result of an investigation performed—and criminal complaints generated—by the Atlantic City Police Department for Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute charges—crimes of the 3rd degree and 1st degree, respectively.
Martinez was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 bail.
Prosecutor Jim McClain said, “This enforcement action continues the coordinated work of municipal and County law enforcement to work together to effectively and efficiently address the illegal drug trade in our Atlantic County municipalities.”
A conviction for a 3rd degree crime carries a potential penalty of 3-5 years in New Jersey State prison. The potential penalty for a 2nd degree conviction is 5-10 years of imprisonment. A 1st degree conviction carries of potential penalty of 10-20 years in prison.
These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.***
