Two Arrested in Connection with Motor Vehicle Theft out of Absecon

On Wednesday, July 8th 2015, Absecon Police received a report of a stolen vehicle from the Absecon Center shopping complex. The victim stated that his 2009 Toyota Camry was stolen from the rear of his business. Absecon Police checked the area but could not locate the stolen vehicle. 

On Thursday July 9th 2015, a resident of Hamilton Township called police in regards to suspicious activity in a residential development. The caller informed Hamilton Township Police that a subject appeared to be attempting to enter parked, unoccupied vehicles. 

The caller provided identifying information for the suspect vehicle which was discovered to be stolen out of Absecon. Upon police arrival however, the vehicle was not on location. 

On Thursday July 9th 2015, at approximately 11pm, the Absecon Police Detective Bureau was conducting checks of local motel parking lots when the vehicle was discovered at the Passport Inn and Suites in Galloway Township. 

After an investigation, two subjects were located at the motel and placed under arrest without incident. 

Darius Spence, 20, of Willingboro NJ, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle. He was lodged in the Atlantic County - Gerald Gormley Justice Facility on $10,000 full bail. 

Shanika Connelly, 22, of Atlantic City was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, as a result of the investigation. She was released on a summons. 


The vehicle was returned to the owner.
