Pleasantville Man Identified as Victim in House Fire; Deemed Arson

PLEASANTVILLE – The man’s body found inside the site of a residential structure fire in Pleasantville last week has been identified, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
At 3:16 a.m. on June 13, Pleasantville Police and Fire Departments responded to 402 Doughty Road for a 9-1-1 report of a structure fire. Emergency personnel extinguished the fire and discovered burned human remains inside the home.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be arson.

The victim has been identified as Wilfredo Ortiz, 51, of Pleasantville. Next-of-kin have been notified.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes and Arson Units, and the Pleasantville Police Department, are conducting the investigation.
