Explosion on Duerer Street Sends Small Child to Hospital for Evaluation

On Saturday, February 2, 2013 at approximately 02:51 PM The Galloway Township Police Department along with The Germania Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Duerer Street in reference to an explosion that occurred inside a residential home. When police arrived they observed a large amount of smoke coming from the interior of the residence.  Police ensured that all occupants were out of the house and safe and The Germania Fire Department arrived on scene. 
The preliminary investigation revealed that a heating device exploded in the basement causing significant damage to the structure of the residence.  A small child who was in the residence at the time of the incident was transported to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center Mainland Division for a medical evaluation.  No one else involved in the incident reported any injuries.
