Galloway Man Arrested for Hit-and-Run of Pedestrian in Smithville

On December 4, 2015 at 10:05 p.m., Galloway Police responded to Historic Smithville for a pedestrian motor vehicle accident.

According to Police, James Newell 79, of Galloway was driving a Chrysler Sebring within the Towne of Historic Smithville and struck a pedestrian, Tasia Martinez, 35, of Somers Point, causing injury.  

Mr. Newell left the scene of the collision and was later located at his residence.  The victim was transported to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury to her leg. 
Mr. Newell was charged with careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, failure to report, and failing to install an ignition interlock device.
