On Sunday, April 12, 2015, at approximately 2:08 a.m., the Galloway Township Police Department responded to Pitney Road south of the intersection with Collins Road in reference to the report of an overturned vehicle.
Upon police arrival they located a 2010 Chevrolet HHR and the driver of the vehicle, Matthew D. Shell, IV, 33, of Galloway Township.
The accident investigation reveals that Shell was driving northbound on Pitney Road when his vehicle traveled off the east side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a tree before overturning and coming to a rest on the side of the roadway.
Shell was able to exit the vehicle on his own and he refused medical treatment from The Galloway Township Ambulance Squad.
Shell was placed under arrest at the scene and charged with driving while intoxicated as well as several other motor vehicle violations.
He was additionally charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Shell was released on all charges pending a future court date.
The incident is currently being investigated by Officer Stewart and Officer Neal.
