McDonalds Employees Thwart Strong-Arm Robbery; Suspect Tried to Steal Five Dollars

On November 17, 2014 at 9:02 p.m., the Absecon Police Department received several 9-1-1 calls reporting a strong-arm robbery at the Absecon McDonald's (551 White Horse Pike).

Police arrived within minutes and arrested the suspect, who was still inside the restaurant being held down by employees. The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Cory J. Leuffgen of Little Egg Harbor, NJ.

After placing an order at the sales counter, and waiting for the cashier to open the register, the suspect made his move, lunging over the counter and grabbing at the money in the open register. The suspect grabbed a five-dollar bill and then sprinted toward the exit doors.

Another employee, who was on break and near the exit, blocked the suspect from leaving and a brief struggle ensued. Other employees assisted in subduing the suspect until police arrived. No weapons were involved and no injuries were reported. The five-dollar bill was recovered.

Mr. Leuffgen was charged with one count of 2nd degree robbery. Bail was set by Municipal Court Judge William Gasbarro in the amount of $100,000 full. Mr. Leuffgen was unable to post bail and lodged in the Atlantic County Jail.
