Egg Harbor City Detective Steven Hadley Charged with Four Counts of Second-Degree Official Misconduct

MAYS LANDING – An Egg Harbor City Police Detective has been charged with official misconduct in connection with exploiting his position as a police officer in order to engage in sexual conduct with several women, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Steven Hadley, 31, of Port Republic, was charged with four counts of second-degree official misconduct.

The charges allege that Hadley committed unauthorized exercises of his official function as a police officer in order to obtain benefit for himself, specifically sexual contact. The charges allege that while performing his official duties, Hadley took part in sexual acts with four different women on various occasions, from January of 2010 through May of 2013.
Hadley’s attorney has been served with the charges on behalf on his client due to the fact the defendant currently remains hospitalized and in critical condition following a serious car accident yesterday morning.
Official misconduct, a crime of the second-degree, carries a state prison sentence of 5- 10 years and up to $150,000 in fines.
***These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Anyone with information involving serious crimes is asked to call the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-909-7800 or go to the Prosecutor’s Office Web site at http://www.acpo.org/tips.html and provide information by filling out the form anonymously on the Submit a Tip page. I guess all those articles on this site I originally doubted were published prematurely were actually accurate. I apologize and thank you for keeping us informed on these situations specifically when it deals with cops.

Good job on this story. How about doing one on people who collect SSI and earn money under the table defrauding the government. Or people who have their family in Florida and now all of a sudden having a change of "heart" I cannot believe people can't see that fraud for who he is.

This is not Galloway news, and neither was the story of his accident, so why put your nose in it?! This doesn't say Egg Harbor City New or even Atlantic County News, stick with what your name reflects. His family is going through enough and not 48 hours after the crash this is plastered all over facebook! What about his family that hadn't a chance to find out about the accident? Really great job!

I'm sure his family had plenty of enough time to prepare for what was inevitable. What about his victims? Do they not count? It does say news in the surrounding area. Egg harbor city cops cover all areas including Galloway and my hometown in Mullica. We deserve to know what this guy has been up to. Are you going to blame all the other media outlets for plastering this news? Give me a break. It's all through Philadelphia news as I just saw it on channel 6. Get a life.

Doesn't the Atlantic City Press, cover other town's? Are they just suppose to cover Atlantic City? I think not. The more news options, for all of us, the better. I'm glad they are covering more then just Galloway.

The State Police issued a press release, about the accident - so clearly the family was notified; and this website reported it. This website was the FIRST to report there was an investigation against this officer. This website was chastised for writing that "without knowing the facts" well, it again appears this website KNEW the facts all along. Now one would tend to speculate that the accident isn't just happenstance. Clearly there's some type of connection to the story - I'd be hard pressed to think they just happen to charge him today, knowing that most officers in the PBA have legal protection (LPP) which they pay for, an attorney would have been notified to have their client surrender. Happenstance? It doesn't take a physic to look at the big picture. Clearly, the person who objected to this story is withholding something.

long overdue for him to get these kind of charges but better late than never unfortunately as we all know here in egg harbor city he has done this to much more than just 4 women i tip my hat to these ladies for having the courage to come forward despite how intimidating he is with the badge and threats they didn't give in to the fear like so many countless others have

good job keep up the good work

If he is guilty, he knows what is waiting for him in jail. He faces double trouble: rapists get constantly raped by the inmates and cops are targeted for constant inmate beatings. Plus, the wannabe-cop prison guards will abuse him too. He would have to be put into solitary just for his own protection. If he is guilty of rapes, then the terror that those women experienced will be in his future forever.

Another dirty cop doing dirty things....nothing to see here folks, keep moving.

Whatever happened to innocent until PROVEN guilty! He is a fantastic cop, a wonderful family man. The "women" in this case are all crack addicts who are known to sleep with people for drugs, and because he has arrested them, or their pimps, they want revenge. People should know both sides of the story before forming an opinion!

It sounds as though you have already formed your opinion that these women are all lying. Practice what you preach because you could be sitting there with egg all over your face. Remember....realistically....YOU only know one side as well.

I actually HAVE heard both sides and unless someone is PROVEN guilty in a court of law, they are to be presumed INNOCENT. You don''t know who I am, so please do not assume I only know one side of this story. I know details that this case that the writer of this story only wishes they had. Everyone will see, when he is proven innocent, who will have egg on their faces!

When it comes to the relationship between the accident and the charges, one and one doesn't always equal two.
The charges mean only that the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office believes it has a case. Detective Hadley is no 'people person,' but is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Meanwhile, this man has bigger problems than the allegations against him.
Jail means that his family would be deprived of his presence for a finite period of time.
Death means that they would be deprived of him forever.
Have a little heart, folks, and let the justice system do its job.

The Atlantic City press is titled as such...does that mean that the press should only cover Atlantic City? Of course it doesn't, its people like you that allow corruption and wrongdoings to go on in the public sector. As far as I'm concerned nobody cares about his family, and why should they. Obviously he didn't, but yet you want taxpayers to care? The Atlantic County prosecutors office wouldn't have spent the time and/or money on this investigation if it wasn't true, and they certainly would not have charged. Get your head out of the sand, if he doesn't care about his family than why in the world should I or this website or anyone else for that matter!

@ anon 12:59pm....I don't care who you are but you certainly don't know all the facts. You're fooling yourself. Do yourself a favor and don't set yourself up for a big let down. I know that friends and family of an individual in trouble are inherently supportive to a fault even. Keep your wits about you so you don't feel so betrayed when the smoke clears. It'll make it easier to accept.....IF you're wrong. It must be refreshing to have such clarity about something. More power to you.

I'm feel very sorry for his family & I'm so sorry they have to deal with this By the way the people of EHC all know he's a dirty cop My question is why did it take so long & why no other charges yet

No, it has nothing to do with your comments.

@ sept 27 927am because his father was a prosecutor for a long time and was a powerful man and has since retired and the prosecutor office wouldn't touch him then

For the person who wishes to remind us of the innocent until proven guilty, you're correct. However with that said, there is a reason why the ACPO has such a high conviction rate - they ONLY charge people when they KNOW they're going to get a conviction. 1 charge of official misconduct, OK. 2. Hmmm, 3. that's telling but 4 charges - THAT's NOT a "whim" it's not like a detective there said, I'm charging him. The entire case had to be reviewed by a whole bunch of people, before they charged him. It's noble to stand up for someone. But a former Northfield Police Chief thought he too had bullet-proof underwear too, look what a disgrace he became.

Four counts of charges is a significant case. I think the prosecutors office knows when they have a solid case to charge, they will win. We can only hope Galloway Township is in their sites next. Clean up one town at a time.

I think we all know here in EHC he is guilty at least those of us who aren't blind and true there are a handful more of crooked officers but the force is overall good people and it's a shame they are going to get a bad rep from this but this is TRULY for the best the only way to fix the problem is to address it admit it and take just action and thank you to this news site being the first to report

Is there any updates on this story?

Nothing from the Prosecutor, I am waiting on statement from NJ State Police on the cause for the motor vehicle accident he was involved in.
