Police Search for Male Suspect in Hit-and-Run Accident on Route 40 that Killed Atlantic City Woman

MAYS LANDING — Police continue the investigation of a woman who was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Route 40 near the Bayview Motel in Atlantic City, NJ on November 3, 2016 at 6:52 pm, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced today.
The victim has been identified as Amy Smith, age 37 of Atlantic City, NJ. Next of kin has been notified.
An autopsy, performed on 11/04/16 at the New Jersey State Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, determined the cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries and the manner of death: accident (pedestrian struck by vehicle.)
An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect, who was operating the vehicle that struck and killed the victim prior to leaving the scene, and police are seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect. 

The suspect has been identified as Carlos Ignacio Prada Arriaga, age 27, of Pleasantville, NJ. Carlos Ignacio Prado Arriaga is charged with:
  • Leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle, a crime of the 2nd degree 
  • Unlicensed Driver Involved in a Motor Vehicle Crash resulting in Death, a crime of the 3rd. degree 
The suspect was last seen with Alejandra Rivera, aka: Sandra Rivera. Photographs of both are being provided. The investigation continues to be actively pursued.

The aforementioned charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
