PLEASANTVILLE – A Pleasantville man was charged last week with being an accomplice to murder and to conspiracy to commit murder, in connection with the shooting death of an Egg Harbor City man in Pleasantville on September 10, 2016, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.
Pleasantville Police responded on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 5:12 p.m. to the intersection of Linden Avenue and Merion Avenue, Pleasantville, for a 9-1-1 call reporting gunshots. EMS and AtlantiCare paramedics also responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, police found Rasheed O. Hines, 29, of Cincinnati Avenue, Egg Harbor City, the apparent victim of a shooting. Hines was transported by emergency medical responders to the AtlantiCare Medical Center—City Campus, where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Thompson at 5:47 p.m. Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit detectives also responded to the scene and to the hospital.
An autopsy performed the next day, September 11, 2016, by New Jersey Southern Regional Medical Examiner Office Dr. Gerald Feigin determined the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death: homicide.
Investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Pleasantville Police led to the authorization by Acting Prosecutor Ruberton on September 16, 2016, of a charge against Robert L. Terrell, 32, of the 200 block of Tremont Avenue, Pleasantville, NJ, of Hindering the Apprehension of Another “by driving a vehicle to a scene of a homicide with the shooter in his vehicle and then transport[ing] the shooter to another location”—a crime of the 3rd degree.
On October 26, 2016, Terrell was arrested without incident at the Shamrock Hotel, St. James Place, Atlantic City, NJ, by detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Pleasantville Police Department, and the Atlantic City Police Vice Unit. Terrell was transported to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, where he was processed for the arrest, then lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $75,000 full cash bail set by Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Bernard E. DeLury Jr. Terrell has remained in custody since.
On Monday, November 7, 2016, detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office charged Terrell with Accomplice Liability, for “purposely and knowingly act[ing] as an accomplice of a yet unidentified individual to commit the murder of Rasheed Hines” on September 10, 2016, and with Conspiracy to Commit Murder—both crimes of the 1st degree. Detectives served the Warrant Complaint to Terrell the same day at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Terrell is now held on $500,000 full cash/no bond bail for the new charges, set by Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Waldman.
The potential penalty for a conviction of Accomplice Liability and Conspiracy to Commit Murder is incarceration in New Jersey State prison for 30 years to life. A 3rd degree conviction carries a potential penalty of 3-5 years in prison.
