One Injured After Striking Utility Pole in Single Motor Vehicle Accident

The Absecon Police Department was dispatched to a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 8:40pm on Rt. 30 in the area of the Bayview Motel. 

The police department is investigating the single motor vehicle crash where the vehicle struck a utility pole. 

Witness accounts show the vehicle driving erratically and at a high rate of speed before the crash. The utility pole was broken into three pieces from the impact and the vehicle was torn into two pieces. 

The rear half of the vehicle burst into flames and was extinguished by the Absecon Fire Department. The driver of the vehicle, 24yr old John Rios of Brigantine, was ejected from the vehicle. 

Mr. Rios was treated for serious injuries and transported by the Absecon Ambulance Squad and AtlantiCare paramedics to AtlantiCare City Campus. 

Absecon Blvd eastbound traffic was closed for approximately four hours. The Galloway Police Department, Atlantic City Police Department, and the New Jersey State Dept. of Transportation assisted with traffic control. 


The incident is being investigated by Ptl. Jeffrey Mazer and Ptl. Christian F. Cavileer of the Traffic Safety Unit with possible charges pending. Anyone with additional information contact the Absecon Police Department at 609-641-0667.
