UPDATED: Burger King Maybe Headed to "Downtown Galloway"; Mayor Endorsed but Board Approval Yet to be Granted

UPDATED: Burger King has been scheduled for tonights Planning Board Meeting. The agenda, which was emailed by the Township at 1:27 a.m., the day of meeting, lists Jersey Shore  Federal Credit Union Phase II, which is the proposed site for Burger King. 

The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Complex where the public is welcomed to attend and speak at the public portion of the application.

Galloway Township may soon be getting a Burger King. The project site for the proposed Burger King is scheduled to be located on Jimmie Leeds Road and Eighth Avenue, behind the Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union. 

The area known as "Downtown Galloway", has a ShopRite, CVS, WaWa and TD bank located at the same intersection as well as other named commercial developments.

The application that was submitted calls for final site plan approval for Phase II which will allow for the construction of a one-story, 2,800 square foot restaurant building called (Burger King). The plan calls for twenty-five (25) parking spaces and a drive-thru lane with an exit across from the ShopRite exit onto Eighth Avenue.

Richard Stockton College Student Al Nagbe is HERO of the Year

On September 7, 2014, the chairman of the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers, Bill Elliot, will be featured on NBC TV 40’s Forum 40.  Robin Stoloff, of the NBC 40 staff, is the host of the show.

Lt. Anthony DiSciascio, of the Somers Point Police Department’s traffic unit, and Al Nagbe, the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey HERO of the Year, will join Elliot on the show.

Nagbe was selected as HERO of the Year by his classmates based on his service as a HERO designated driver. His photograph is showcased on an Atlantic City Expressway billboard. He is a pre-med Stockton Senior and is from Egg Harbor Township.

Rabies Confirmed in Skunk Located in Galloway on Odessa Avenue

A skunk collected from the 200 block of Odessa Avenue in Galloway has been confirmed as the seventh case of rabies in Atlantic County this year, but the first found in Galloway.

This is the second rabies case found in a skunk. The other previous cases involved four raccoons and one fox.

The skunk was found in the property owner’s yard and exhibited aggressive behavior before it crossed the street into another property where it was captured and removed by the local animal control officer. It was sent to the state lab for testing where it was confirmed positive for the viral disease on August 28, 2014.

Absecon Police Arrest Two Men Involved in Recent Burglaries to Local Businesses

On Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2014, the Absecon Police Department Detectives arrested two individuals after a three week long burglary investigation involving local businesses. 

Two local residents were arrested and charged in three separate burglaries that occurred on August 2nd, 8th, and 24th to the same business- Sunoco Gas & Minimart located at 471 White Horse Pike. 

In all three burglaries, forced entry was made into the business and cash and large amounts of nicotine products were stolen. Surveillance video and evidence recovered at the scene resulted in the suspects being identified. 

Galloway Police Receive Two Surplus Military Vehicles to Assist Emergency Management Operations

The Galloway Township Police Department was issued two special purpose vehicles through the federal Law Enforcement Support Office (LESO) program.  

"This program is administered through the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and supplies law enforcement agencies with surplus military property" Sgt. Joe Picardi said.  The vehicles include a Humvee and a 6x6 Utility Truck.  

Both vehicles were inspected by the Galloway Township Fleet Manager and picked up at Fort Dix.  Both are in running condition and appear to have been well maintained.
