Car Driving Wrong Way Crashes into Two Vehicles; Five People Injured

On March 6, 2017 at 6:23 p.m. Galloway Township Police responded to a report of multi-vehicle accident on the White Horse Pike. 

According to Police, a 2003 Suzuki driven by Caridad Shieh 62, of Cortlandt Manor NY was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of US 30 in the area where the highway is divided by a concrete barrier. 

The Suzuki struck a BMW driven by Alexis Varela-Cano 40, of Atlantic City. The Suzuki continued east and struck a Lexus driven by Wilfredo Carreno 69, of Absecon before coming to rest. 


All occupants in the accident were injured. The driver of the Suzuki suffered a moderate injury and was transported to ARMC – Mainland by GTAS. Both passengers of the BMW were transported by Ambulance to ARMC – Mainland for minor injuries. Drivers of the BMW and Lexus suffered minor injuries and did not wish medical treatment. 

The eastbound lanes of US 30 were shut down for approximately 1 hour while the scene was investigated and debris/vehicles were removed. Shieh was issued a summons for driving the wrong direction on a divided highway. Ofc. Steve Garrison is investigating
