Galloway Man Sentenced to 7-years for 2015 Armed Robbery

MAYS LANDING — A Galloway Township man was sentenced on August 26, 2016 to 7 years in state prison in connection with the 2015 armed robbery of a gas attendant at the Spirit Gas Station in Galloway Township, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton announced.
On September 29, 2015 at 9:40 p.m., the Galloway Township Police Department responded to the Spirit Gas Station located at 14 S. New York Road for the report of an armed robbery. Preliminary investigation revealed that suspect, who had fled the scene after the robbery, was armed with a long gun. Responding patrol units were unable to locate the suspect and the suspect was reported to have acquired $90.00 - $120.00 in the robbery.

An investigation by Detective Kiamos of the Galloway Township Police Department led to the January 15, 2016 arrest of Brian Gill Jr, 25, of Waterview Drive, Galloway Township, NJ. Gill was charged with several criminal charges including robbery.
On May 3, 2016 an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Gill on 4 criminal counts:
  • 1 count of Robbery, while armed with a deadly weapon (a shotgun) —a crime of the 1st degree; 
  • Possession of a Weapon with the Purpose to Use it Unlawfully against the person or property of another —2nd degree; 
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm without first having obtained a permit to carry—3rd. degree and 
  • Possession of a Weapon by a Person Not to Have Weapons —2nd degree. 

On August 26, 2016, pursuant to a plea of guilty, Superior Court Judge Wild sentenced Gill to:
7 years of incarceration in New Jersey State Prison for first-degree armed robbery and second-degree possession of a firearm by a convicted person. Pursuant to the No Early Release Act (NERA) and the Graves Act, Gill is required to serve 85% of the sentence—5 years and 11 months - before becoming eligible for parole.

Assistant Prosecutor Allison Eiselen represented the State in the matter.
