ARRESTS:

Walberto Jose Torres, 22, of Egg Harbor Twp. was arrested by Ofc. Scott Winneberger for DWI and possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana on September 22. 

Luis A. Colon, 20, of Egg Harbor Twp. was arrested by Ofc. Scott Winneberger for consumption of alcohol under age and possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana on September 22. 

Keith J. Ospina, 29, of Galloway was arrested by Ofc. Przemyslaw Ryba for tampering with evidence and attempting to elude police on September 22. 

Joseph W. Ambrosia, 23, of Egg Harbor Twp. was arrested by Ofc. Kevin Costa for possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on September 23. 

Kevin Smith, 31, of Galloway was arrested by Det. Ryan Goehringer for theft, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing on September 25. 

Jessie J. Patten, 33, of Galloway was arrested by Ofc. Ronald Gorneau for theft and criminal mischief on September 25. 

Joanna I. Osorio, 27, of Hammonton was arrested by Ofc. Przemyslaw Ryba for possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on September 26. 

Miguel A. Torres, 25, of Clearwater FL was arrested by Ofc. Ronald Gorneau for hindering apprehension and drug paraphernalia on September 26. 

David P. Jones, 45, of Hammonton was arrested by Ofc. James Mullholland for driving while suspended for DWI on September 26. 

Sean P. Mullin, 19, of Pemberton NJ was arrested by Ofc. Ronald Gorneau for DWI on September 27. 

David R. Burchell, 19, of Galloway was arrested by Ofc. Ronald Gorneau for burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, and burglar’s tools on September 27. 

Francis J. Malloy Jr., 19, of Galloway was arrested by Ofc. Vincent Ceci for receiving stolen property, burglary and burglary tools on September 27.

Christina A. Dell, 33, of Surf City NJ was arrested by Ofc. Kevin Costa for hindering apprehension on September 27. 

Roslyne A. Kelsey, 37, of Galloway was arrested by Ofc. John Mooney for possession of weapons and being a fugitive from justice on September 28.

Per Galloway Township Police Department, persons listed here as arrestees are considered innocent until or unless otherwise adjudicated otherwise in court. 

Two Suspects Apprehended on Weapons Offenses after Foot Pursuit in Absecon

On Thursday October 3, 2013 at approx 1:30pm, the Absecon Police assisted the Atlantic City Police in apprehending two suspects wanted on weapons offenses, after they led police in a motor vehicle and foot pursuit through the two jurisdictions. 

Atlantic City Police attempted to stop the motor vehicle in their city and it continued on Rt.30 into Absecon. The suspects then bailed out of their vehicle on Pitney Road in Absecon and fled on foot. Several Officers from both police departments gave chase. 

One suspect was apprehended by police immediately, the second suspect fled on foot through several back yards on Oak Lane and Pine Street. 

LaQuay Elliott, 20 years old of Absecon was apprehended by police after he broke into a house on the 300 block of Pine Street trying to escape. Police pursued him into the residence where he was apprehended. A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered nearby, which LaQuay tried to discard during the foot chase.

Absecon Police Alert Residents of Motor Vehicle Burglaries

The Absecon Police Department received numerous complaints of burglaries to motor vehicles during the night time hours of Wednesday October 2nd and the early morning hours of October 3rd. 

The reported burglaries were in the surrounding areas of North Shore Road, to include Bayview Drive, Sooy Lane, Curran Drive, Howlett Lane, and Hobart Ave. All of the vehicles that were entered were believed to have been left unlocked. None of the vehicles had any damage to gain entry, and only cash and small electronics were taken. 

The Absecon Police Department would like to remind everyone to lock up their vehicles and to remove any valuables that might be stored inside of them. If you see any suspicious activity in your neighbor, do not hesitate to contact the Absecon Police Department.

Atlantic City Man Convicted of Aggravated Manslaughter and Weapons Offenses for Fatal Stabbing in 2011

MAYS LANDING - An Atlantic City man was convicted of aggravated manslaughter and weapons offenses for fatally stabbing a man with a pair of scissors in 2011, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today.

On Thursday, Oct. 3, an Atlantic County jury convicted Manuel E. Concepcion Jr., 34, of aggravated manslaughter and weapons offenses for the fatal stabbing of Ignacio Castro, 45, who was stabbed in the heart with a pair of scissors in July of 2011.

In the early morning hours of July 11, 2011, an altercation occurred between Concepcion and Castro outside on Pacific Avenue. The altercation turned physical and Concepcion stabbed Castro in the chest with a pair of scissors. Following the stabbing, Castro was observed staggering down Pacific Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. by a witness who called 911. Atlantic City Police arrived moments later and discovered Castro lying on the ground at the corner of Pacific and Florida Avenues. Castro was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, city campus, where he later succumbed to his injuries on Aug. 3, 2011.

Following Castro's death, Concepcion was arrested for murder and lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where he has remained awaiting trial in lieu of $500,000 bail.

During the three-week-long trial, the State, represented by Assistant Prosecutor Erik Bergman, presented the jury with police and witness testimony, video evidence of the altercation and physical evidence, including the pair of broken scissors used in the stabbing.

One of the State’s witnesses —a friend of the defendant’s— testified that following the stabbing, Concepcion called him informing him that he had injured his hand during the altercation and asked him to discard the scissors, which he had left at the crime scene. The friend discarded the scissor blades in a nearby alleyway, but left behind the scissor handles, which had broken off during the stabbing. Both the scissor handles and the blades—which tested positive for the victim’s blood— were recovered by police and submitted as evidence during the trial.

The defendant testified at trial that he was involved in an altercation with the victim; however he alleged that another man had delivered the fatal wound. Beyond the defendant, the defense did not produce any other additional witnesses or evidence to support the defendant’s allegations.

After six hours of deliberation, the jury found Conception guilty of aggravated manslaughter, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Concepcion will be sentenced by Superior Court Judge Mark Sandson on Nov. 21, 2013.

Aggravated manslaughter, a crime of the first-degree, carries a state prison sentence between 10-30 years and up to $200,000 in fines.

Atlantic City Teen Indicated on Eight Counts including the Murder of a Pleasantville Man

MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City teen who was charged as a juvenile for the shooting death of a Pleasantville man in December of last year, and subsequently waived up to be tried as an adult in criminal court, was indicted for murder today, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.

On April 18, 2013, the Atlantic City Police Department apprehended Abubaka Brown, then 17 years old, for the murder on December 5, 2012 of 19-year-old Taron Williams.

Williams and 13-year-old Todd Mitchell, also of Pleasantville, were discovered by police outside of a residence located at 101⁄2 Woodland Avenue in Pleasantville. Both teens had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, where they were pronounced dead a short time later.

A four month investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Pleasantville Police Department led to the arrest of Brown for the murder of Taron Williams during the commission of a home invasion robbery.

The investigation revealed that Abubaka Brown and Todd Mitchell had conspired to rob Taron Williams at gunpoint, that Brown shot and killed Williams during the robbery, and that Williams shot and killed Mitchell defending himself.

17-years-old at the time of the crime, Brown was initially charged as a juvenile, and lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $350,000 bail, where he remains.

On June 28, 2013, Brown was waived up to be tried as an adult in Atlantic County Superior Court by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Today a grand jury returned eight (8) indictments against Brown: murder, two counts of felony murder, conspiracy, armed robbery, armed burglary, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a handgun. Conviction for a count of murder or felony murder carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment with a minimum of 30 years of incarceration before becoming eligible for parole.

Chief Assistant Prosecutor John Maher represented the State in the matter.

These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
