K9 Officer Winneberger and K9 Partner Lycos Tracking of Burglary Suspect; Leads to Arrest

On December 20, 2012, at approximately 04:30 AM, the Galloway Police received a 911 call regarding a burglary in progress on the 700 block of Wood Lane in the Highlands section of the Township.

The occupant of the house called and advised that someone was trying to gain entry to his residence.  The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival but was observed by neighbors on Gail Lane running from the area.  The victim and witnesses described the suspect as approximately 6 ft tall, dressed in dark clothing, wearing a hooded jacket and noting that the suspect’s pants had cargo pockets on them.

It was also discovered that a Samsung 50” TV and an Xbox video game were taken from an enclosed porch area of the victim’s residence.  The property was later located outside and nearby the victim’s residence.

Galloway K9 Officer Scott Winneberger and his K9 partner Lycos conducted a track of the suspect.  The track led from the victim’s residence through the neighborhood to a residence on the 700 block of Cheltenham Ave.

Upon making contact at the residence on Cheltenham, officers located a suspect who was approximately 6 foot, out of breath, sweating profusely, and who fit the clothing description.  The subject, identified as Ricardo Rodriguez, age 26 of the 700 block of Cheltenham was taken into custody for outstanding traffic warrants out of Egg Harbor Twp and was subsequently charged with Burglary/theft by Galloway Twp Police.  Bail was set by Municipal Court Judge Freed at $50,000 Cash bail for the Burglary/Theft.  Ricardo was lodged in the Atlantic County jail.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident or related incidents can call Patrol Officer Steve Vernon or Detective Goehringer at 609-652-3705 Ext 320.
