New Galloway Mayor Jim Gorman Already Facing Legal Issues

Mayor Jim Gorman
The new Mayor of Galloway Township, Jim Gorman is already facing legal trouble and he has only been in the office for twenty (20) days.

On December 18, 2019, Galloway Township received a notice of tort claim from Edwin Jacobs, Esq., on behalf of former Mayor Donald Purdy.  The tort claim alleges libelous statements were published by Councilman Jim Gorman in two letters that were sent to the Galloway residents regarding the November 5, 2019 election.  Purdy is asserting that those letters falsely accused Purdy of receiving political payouts from the Galloway Planning Board as well as collecting tens of thousands of dollars under a "lucrative towing contract with the Township."

"This is the last thing I wanted to do was to serve the Township with this legal notice after I dedicated 10-years of my life as a member of the governing body in order to make this Township better" Purdy said.  "I have been out of office for two years and they (the Democrats) have done nothing but send out false mailers to the residents I served, and it is now hurting my businesses and my family."

'To use your official office and mail residents false information is irresponsible and I am shocked that Jim Gorman would do that" Purdy said.  "It put the Township in a liability risk."

Purdy is claiming that he has suffered injuries and damages to his good name and reputation, standing in the community, personal humiliation, mental anguish and business economic loss as a result of the libelous publications.

Purdy alleges that Mayor Gorman facilitated the publication and libelous statements that have impaired his reputation and economic advantage by disclosing the false and untrue information knowingly and/or reckless disregard of such falsity.

When reached for comment, three members of council had no idea the Township was served with a tort notice and could not comment until they determine why they were not told.
