On May 19, 2018 at 5:07 p.m., Galloway Police Officer Ronald Gorneau of the Department Traffic Unit conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2001 Pontiac for multiple traffic violations.
The vehicle came to a stop in the rear of the Holiday Inn Express in Absecon at which time the driver, Rashon Purnell, 29 of Mays Landing fled the scene on foot. Officer Gorneau gave chase and successfully apprehended Purnell several blocks away.
During the investigation it was discovered that Purnell was in possession of approximately 800 bags of heroin, marijuana, a loaded 9mm handgun, and over $1,700 in cash. Additional ammunition was also located.
Purnell was charged with numerous offenses including obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, eluding police, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to have weapons, and possession of a firearm during a CDS offense.
Purnell was lodged in Atlantic County Justice Facility on his charges pending a future court date.
