MAYS LANDING –A Pleasantville man is charged with multiple charges in connection to the August 2016, Atlantic City Expressway shootout, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.
Devan Leggette, 21, was charged with four counts of Attempted Murder, one count of Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, and one count of Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose. Leggette has a first appearance Thursday before Municipal Court Judge John Roseberger.
On August 29, 2016, there was a shootout on the Atlantic City Expressway eastbound lanes at approximately milepost 11.2. One eyewitness stated he heard gunshots and looked up and saw smoke coming out of a black Dodge Ram pickup truck. The Dodge pickup truck and a white Ford Expedition began to exchange gunfire.
The eyewitness followed the Dodge pickup truck off of Exit 5, towards Pleasantville. He gave a description of the driver of the pickup truck and during a photographic lineup, Leggette was identified by a witness as the driver of the Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Leggette will have a detention hearing on Monday, June 26, at 1:30 p.m., before Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor.
