Sayreville Woman Arrested for Assault on Police and Others

The Absecon Police Department arrested a 24-year-old female from Sayreville on August 30, 2014 at approximately 10:10 AM after she contacted a friend for a ride home after a night out in Atlantic City. 
Shannon E. Walsh was a passenger in a vehicle operated by Caitlin Whittet, age 26 of Ocean Twp., Monmouth County. Walsh began assaulting Whittet after they left Atlantic City as she was operating the vehicle with her 3 year old son was in the vehicle. Whittet was able to call 911 and notify Absecon Police of the assault. 

Ptl. Cavileer located the vehicle as it headed west on the White Horse Pike. Walsh was observed striking the driver as she drove the vehicle and she grabbed the steering wheel attempting to force the vehicle into the concrete barrier. Once the vehicle pulled off the roadway, Walsh got out of the vehicle and began to run away from the officer. 
As the officer stopped her Walsh turned around and began to assault Ptl. Cavileer. Ptl. Williams of the Absecon Police Department arrived on location and assisted in taking Walsh into custody. Once she was placed in the rear of the patrol vehicle Walsh got out of her handcuffs and began to try and kick out the patrol car windows. 
Walsh was taken out of the vehicle and restrained. While being restrained Walsh began kicking Sgt. Ponzetti and Ptl. Williams in the legs and groin. Walsh was restrained and transported to the Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus for evaluation. 
She was released from the hospital and was charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault for the two victims in the motor vehicle and 3 counts of aggravated assault on police officers. She was also charged with 3 counts of resisting arrest. 
Bail was set at $75,000.00 cash and she was lodged into the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The assault is being investigated by Ptl. Christian Cavileer.
