Investigation in Galloway after Fire Destroys Vacant Home

On August 17, 2015 at approximately 11:22 p.m., a house fire was reported on the 400 Block of S. Poplar Avenue on Monday evening.  Pomona Fire Company arrived and found heavy fire showing from the vacant residence.  The fire was brought under control just before midnight.

Pomona Fire Company was assisted by firefighters from Bayview, Germania, and South Egg Harbor.  Oceanville and Cologne firefighters provided coverage to the Township during the fire.  

House Fire Under Investigation; Residents Evacuated Unharmed

On August 7, 2015 at 3:16am the Galloway Township Police Department and several Galloway Township Fire Companies responded to 548 Falmouth Court for a residence that was engulfed in flames.  

All of the residents were quickly evacuated unharmed, but the residence sustained heavy fire damage.  One of the neighbors residences was also evacuated until the fire was brought under control by the fire companies.  

Galloway Teen Charged with Arson; Woods Burned on Second Avenue

On March 29, 2015, the Bayview Volunteer Fire Company, New Jersey Forest Fire Service, and Galloway Police responded to 2^nd Avenue just south of Route 30 for a woods fire.  

The fire burned approximately ¼ acre of woods near a cell phone tower and several motels.

An investigation by Lt. Joseph Picardi of the Fire/Arson Unit resulted in the arrest of Timothy Clavijo, 18, of Galloway, for setting the fire.  

Fire and Multiple 9-1-1 Calls Responded to by Galloway Police, Fire & EMS

At 12:21 PM Galloway Township Police Communications received a 9-1-1 call reporting a structure fire at Lucky Nails located at 45 S. New York Road.  A second 9-1-1 call was then received of another structure fire in the 100 block of Mattix Run.

The Oceanville, Port Republic, and Pomona fire companies responded with Galloway Police to the New York Road fire.  A camp stove being used inside the building set the surrounding contents of a room on fire.  The sprinkler system was activated and the building sustained smoke and water damage.  An investigation by Galloway Township Fire Marshal Ron Garbutt and Ofc. Bill Schroer determined the fire to be accidental in nature.

Morning Fire of Single Family Home in Galloway Under Investigation

On February 6, 2015 at 9:09 a.m., the Galloway Township Police Department responded to the 200 block of East Crestview Avenue for a reported structure fire. 

Upon patrol arrival, the single family residence was fully engulfed and no one was home. Galloway Twp. fire personnel from Bayview, Pomona, Oceanville and South Egg Harbor responded as well as Absecon Fire personnel. 

Galloway Twp. EMS was on scene in case of injury. No injuries were reported. Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management responded. 

Ham & Oyster Dinner is Back at Oceanville Vol. Fire Co. this Saturday

The firefighters and ladies auxiliary of the Oceanville Volunteer Fire Company invite you to their Semi-Annual Baked Ham & Fried Oyster Dinner. 

Saturday, November 8th, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at their firehouse, 186 S. New York Road, Galloway.

Prices are $15 for adults and $7 for children. All proceeds benefit the fire department. Eat in and take out available.

Galloway Fire Department Assists Hamilton Township in House Fire in Fairways Development

On April 29, 2014 at 2:25pm hours, the Township of Hamilton Police Department and Cologne Fire Department responded to Pebble Beach Drive in the Fairways Development for a structure fire.

Upon arrival two homes were found fully engulfed in flames and surrounding homes sustained minor damage. The fire was extinguished by responding firefighters and no injuries were reported. Family members affected from the fire were being assisted by Red Cross, Salvation Army and Atlantic County Emergency Management.

On Saturday, February 15, 2014 at approximately 8:50 a.m., Galloway Township Police responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Cologne Avenue and Aloe Street.  

Structure Fire on Bally Bunion Drive Displaces Homeowner

On Thursday, February 20, 2014, the Galloway Township Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Bally Bunion Drive in reference to a working structure fire.  

Upon arrival, police confirmed that all residents were evacuated from the building.  One subject reported slight burns to his hands and was treated on scene by Galloway Township EMS.

The initial investigation reveals the fire was started by a lit cigarette.  It caused a mattress to ignite which proceeded to engulf the building in flames.

Galloway Fire Department Provides Assistance to Absecon for House Fire

On November 8th, 2013 the Absecon Police Department responded to assist the Absecon Fire Department with a residential house fire. 

Neighbors called 911 reporting smoke coming from the home at 202 Wynnewood Drive, located in the Shores section of Absecon. The residents were not home at the time of the fire. 

The Absecon Fire Department, with the assistance of the Pleasantville Fire Department, the Galloway Township Fire Department as well as the Absecon Ambulance Squad, quickly extinguished the fire, with no reported injuries.

Each Galloway Township Volunteer Fire Departments to Receive $30,000 for Aid from the Township

Galloway Township Fire Departments have been waiting months for their yearly $30,000 Aid Payments they normally receive from the Township earlier in the year. 

Galloway Township Council is scheduled to finally vote on the $30,000 payments at the September 10, 2013 Council Meeting as listed on the Bill List. 

The Volunteer Fire Companies of Bayview, Oceanville, Pomona, Germania and South Egg Harbor will each receive $30,000 a piece which is the much needed Aid from the Township.

Galloway Township Fire Companies are Volunteer Fire Companies that operate on donations and yearly Aid from the Township. It is our opinion, the Township held the payments pending the outcome of an investigation in each Department which was launched by Township Manager Arch Liston. 

Earlier this year, Liston hired a Private Investigator to investigate statistical anomalies appearing between each Fire Company. The outcome of that investigation has yet to be released by the Township. 

After several Open Public Records Requests for the report, the Township continues to deny access. Township Clerk has stated, "The requested documents are presently exempt under OPRA exceptions N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1.1 Inter-agency or intra-agency advisory, consultative or deliberative material and N.J.S.A. 47:1A-3.a 20) Ongoing investigations – any records pertaining to an investigation in progress by any public agency if disclosure of such record or records shall be detrimental to the public interest."

Township Council is schedule to vote on a Resolution, "Recognizing Certification of the Qualified Participants from Galloway Volunteer Fire Departments in the LOSAP for Calendar Year 2012", which could be a result of the Investigation. 

Details regarding the investigation by the Township was to verify a point system utilized by all Fire Departments as required in the LOSAP program, as confirmed by several members of the Township Fire Department. The point system is used in order to determine the qualification of each member into the LOSAP program per year.

Arson Deemed to be Cause of Early Morning Fire on Fair Haven Hill Court

The Bayview Volunteer Fire Company and Galloway Township Police Department were dispatched to a dwelling fire in an apartment complex on Fair Haven Hill Court on August 26, 2013 at 4:02am.  A resident was awakened by smoke detectors and found a fire in the interior stairwell of the building.  She was able to extinguish the fire and was not injured.

“This fire has been determined to have been intentionally set and was done so in a manner that could have prevented residents from escaping the building,” said Sgt. Joseph Picardi, Fire Investigator with the Galloway Township Police Department.  “Had the smoke detectors not functioned properly and the resident not acted quickly this fire could have resulted in serious injuries or fatalities.”

The Galloway Township Police Department Detective Bureau and Galloway Township Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting in the investigation.     

The Galloway Township Police Department would further like to remind all residents to lock their exterior doors to include common access doors in apartment / condominium style complexes. 

Pomona Volunteer Fire Company Conducting Coin Drop at Pomona & Jimmie Leeds Road

Pomona Volunteer Fire Company will be conducting two separate Coin Drops in Galloway Township. The first one as approved by Galloway Township Council will be on June 29, 2013 and the second on September 7, 2013.

Both will be located at Jimmie Leeds Road & Pomona Road. Drive by on those days and contribute to support Pomona Vol. Fire Company.

UPDATED BREAKING NEWS: Residents Evacuate on Gull Wing Court Due to Gas Leak

Residents on Gull Wing Court in Smithville have been evacuated due to a Gas line leak in the Cul-de-sac. Oceanville and Bayview Vol. Fire Companies have secured the scene. Galloway Township EMS is standing by.

A Fire Department Representative indicated the strong oder of gas has occurred for at least a half an hour. 

South Jersey Gas Company has arrived on scene at approximately 11:30 a.m.
