Stockton to Host Program on Heroin Epidemic Presented by Prosecutor’s Office in Woodbine

Galloway Township, NJ - Adults, parents and youngsters (sixth grade and older) are invited to attend a special presentation titled, “Pills to Heroin,” designed to educate the public about the current heroin epidemic that is affecting communities across the country – including Cape May County.

The Southern Regional Institute & Educational Technology Training Center (SRI&ETTC) in the School of Education at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey is hosting the program presented by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. 

Philadelphia 76ers Hold Training Camp at Richard Stockton College

Galloway Township, NJ -The Philadelphia 76ers will hold training camp at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey’s Sports Center from Sept. 30-Oct. 4.

“Stockton is pleased to host the Sixers at our $17 million Sports Center, an excellent facility which boasts four basketball courts, including two regulation side-by-side full courts,” said President Herman Saatkamp. “This is wonderful news for Stockton and an example of our many community partnerships throughout the region and beyond.”

Stockton Offers Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate Course Beginning on Sept. 20-Nov. 8

Galloway Township, NJ - Classes begin Saturday, Sept. 20 for Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate Certificate preparation programs at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

The hybrid course, combining classroom and online work for greatest flexibility, is perfect for recently displaced workers or anyone who wants to take their Information Technology skills to the next level. The course runs from Sept. 20 – Nov. 8, with classroom sessions on Saturdays and online sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Richard Stockton College Student Al Nagbe is HERO of the Year

On September 7, 2014, the chairman of the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers, Bill Elliot, will be featured on NBC TV 40’s Forum 40.  Robin Stoloff, of the NBC 40 staff, is the host of the show.

Lt. Anthony DiSciascio, of the Somers Point Police Department’s traffic unit, and Al Nagbe, the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey HERO of the Year, will join Elliot on the show.

Nagbe was selected as HERO of the Year by his classmates based on his service as a HERO designated driver. His photograph is showcased on an Atlantic City Expressway billboard. He is a pre-med Stockton Senior and is from Egg Harbor Township.

Stockton Center on Successful Aging Presents Craft Workshops at Kramer Hall in Hammonton

The Stockton Center on Successful Aging of Kramer Hall is hosting a yearlong of craft workshops beginning on Thursday, July 24.

Diamond Frandsen will instruct the summer and fall workshops at the center. Frandsen is a volunteer art instructor of the Stockton Center of Successful Aging, a fiber artist/custom designer and owner of The Ivy Cottage. She has a history of using various crafts and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art Management and Art History from Stockton.

Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” will visit Stockton on Thursday, June 12th

On Thursday, June 12, at approximately 10:40 a.m., Law Enforcement volunteers, Special Olympics athletes and enthusiasts will be arriving at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey on the Main Campus before continuing on the annual Torch Run that will ultimately lead to the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games in Newark on June 15^th.

The Torch Run will begin at the Wildwoods Convention Center and make a stop at the Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall before making an appearance at Stockton. Immediately following their arrival at Stockton, the runners and supporters will continue on their voyage to Long Beach Municipal Hall before ending their route in Newark, NJ.   

Unattended Death of Male Individual on Stockton College Campus Under Investigation

Atlantic County Prosecutors Office has confirmed they are on-scene and assisting Stockton State College Police in Galloway Township with the investigation of a "unattended death" of a male. No further details have been released including if the male was a student at Stockton College. Check back for details as this story is developing.

Stockton Center on Successful Aging to Host Car Fittings for Older Adult Drivers March 29

Galloway Township, NJ- The Stockton Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA) and Stockton mobility experts will host a CarFit safety program designed to help older drivers find the best fit into their driver seats on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

CarFit is a national program developed by the American Automobile Association (AAA), the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the American Occupational Therapy Association and is designed to give a quick, yet comprehensive check on how well an older driver and his or her vehicle work together.  

Stockton@Peace Lecture Series to Host ‘Sandy Stories Project’

Galloway Township, NJ- The Stockton@Peace lecture series will be hosting a March 18, 2014 screening of the “Sandy Stories Project” documentary in The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey’s Campus Center Theatre at 1 p.m. 

The full-length documentary movie, which was produced by the Atlantic County Library System, chronicles the events and aftermath of Hurricane Sandy from the residents of Brigantine, NJ.

Stockton College Seeks Service Providers for Veteran Resource and Employment Fair April 4

Galloway Township, NJ- The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey’s Office of Veteran Affairs is recruiting veteran service providers to take part in a Veteran Resource and Employment Fair on the college’s campus this April.

The fair, co-sponsored by the American Legion and the New Jersey State Parole Board, is set for Friday, April 4, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Stockton’s main Galloway campus in the Campus Center Event Room.

All employers and veteran service providers who assist veterans and homeless veterans with employment, education, counseling, veteran benefits, medical and legal issues are invited to participate.

Super Bowl Trophy to Be in Galloway at Special Olympics ‘Join the Huddle’ Tour at Stockton

Who:  Children and adults will participate in Special Olympics New Jersey events; other members of the public are invited to cheer them on and later, to view the Vince Lombardi Trophy. President Herman Saatkamp of The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey will welcome participants, while Mrs. Dot Saatkamp will join the 3K run/walk.

What: Special Olympics New Jersey will hold fund-raising events including the “Jingle All the Way” 3K Fun Run/Walk and a floor hockey tournament at Stockton. Participants and later the public will have access to the “Join the Huddle” tour’s “Huddle Shuttle” containing the Lombardi Trophy awarded to Super Bowl champions. The 18-wheeler also contains a locker room filled with sports memorabilia, including lockers belonging to Giants quarterback Eli Manning and former running back Curtis Martin, who played for the Patriots and Jets. Families can also participate in fun drills such as a “snowflake toss” and play video games.

David P. Tilton Named to Steering Committee of Stockton’s Hughes Center for Public Policy

The William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey serves as a catalyst for research, analysis and innovative policy solutions on the economic, social and cultural issues facing New Jersey. The Hughes Center conducts academic research and public opinion polling and sponsors political debates, internships, symposia and lectures and the Legislator-in-Residence program.

Stockton Center on Successful Aging & the Otto Bruyns Library of Northfield Presents A Tour of Poetry for Seniors

Galloway Township, NJ – The Stockton Center on Successful Aging has partnered with the Otto Bruyns Public Library of Northfield to sponsor on-going Senior Poetry Workshops at the library at 241 West Mill Road, Northfield, NJ 08225 (609) 646-4476.

One Saturday each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. participants can look forward to a compelling lecture on poetry and reading from a visiting poet.  A light luncheon is offered, compliments of the library and local food service businesses. At the culmination of the poetry series an Intergenerational Poetry Celebration will take place with participants in the library’s High School Poetry Workshop Series.

Stockton College Scholarship Recipients Thank Donors at Annual Recognition Dinner

Galloway Township, NJ- Nearly 150 student scholarship recipients met the donors who have generously supported their academic endeavors at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey’s annual scholarship recognition dinner Nov. 20.

The Stockton College Foundation awarded 224 students with awards totaling $504,000. The Stockton College Foundation provides merit and needs-based awards made possible by institutional funding and private donations to outstanding freshmen, upperclassmen, and transfer and graduate students.

Eighty percent of students receive financial assistance and the college provides $11 million in financial awards to deserving students.

Stockton Kramer Hall Hosts Food Drive Through Nov. 27

Galloway, NJ – Stockton College’s Kramer Hall staff, students and faculty are making an effort to help the 1.3 million people in New Jersey who don’t have enough to eat by holding a food drive.

The public is asked to bring canned goods and non-perishable staples to the food bins located in the lobby of Kramer Hall, 30 Front St. in Hammonton from now through Nov. 27, 2013.

Donated food will be given to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, which distributes items to more than 1,000 charities throughout the state.

10-year-old Pianist to Perform at Stockton's Kramer Hall Art Gallery

Galloway, NJ – Stockton’s Kramer Hall celebrates Hammonton’s Third Thursday on Nov. 21, 2013 with a performance by 10-year-old Cole T. Griscom, a budding pianist who will perform several classical arrangements along with some of his original scores. 

Cole is a fifth grade enrichment student at the Warren E. Sooy Elementary School who began formal piano instruction with Susan Watson Leiser of Hammonton just over a year ago.

He will play during the Noyes Museum’s Photography Opening of “Raw,” which runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Stockton’s Kramer Hall Art Gallery, 30 Front St.

Stockton Students Tried to Hide from Police After Neighbors Called for Noise Complaint on Leeds Point Road

Galloway Township Police responded to another Noise complaint on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 12:47 a.m. Police responded after a 9-1-1 call was made regarding another party in progress at a property located on Leeds Point Road. 

Galloway Police previously responded to the same property on Leeds Point Road on September 7, 2013 when Police broke up a party with over 200 people in attendance. 

This time, according to the Police Summary report, Dispatch received a telephone call from a resident at 135 Leeds Point Road. The resident reported a loud party coming from 137 Leeds Point Road. Officer Paul Smith arrived at the residence and saw a few subjects standing out on the front porch. Upon exiting his patrol car, those subjects quickly ran into the house.
